While their captain was busy leading the Indian team in South Africa, the Royal Challengers Bangalore were in the middle of serious IPL action, with Daniel Vettori at the helm of affairs. The franchise faced a lot of flak for having a depleted bowling attack last year, and they made sure they had it all bases covered by the time the second day of the auctions ended.

Apart from the retained players Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Sarfaraz Khan, the RCB management bolstered their batting at the top, adding quality stroke-makers in the form of Quinton de Kock and Brendon McCullum. Mandeep Singh and Manan Vohra add further balance due to their immense experience of playing the IPL.

In Colin de Grandhomme, they have an able all-rounder who can give the ball a hard thwack and can be crucial with his seaming deliveries. Chris Woakes is another bowling all-rounder in their ranks, while the immensely talented Washington Sundar lends more balance to the side with his off-spin and dependable batting.

The wicket-keeping options are varied: Although Quinton de Kock is a specialist keeper, they have Parthiv Patel, who is an IPL veteran and has played for almost all franchises.

Their spin attack is led by the wily Yuzvendra Chahal, with ample support from the likes of Pawan Negi, Washington Sundar, Murugan Ashwin and Moeen Ali.

The pace attack has some exciting names: Umesh Yadav is set to spearhead the attack along with his former KKR bowling partner Nathan Coulter-Nile, while Mohammed Siraj and Navdeep Saini add versatility along with Kiwi pacer Tim Southee, as well as local Indian talents in Aniket Choudhary and Kulwant Khejroliya.
