Kochi Tuskers Kerala (KTK) played its only Indian Premier League season in the year 2011. Kochi, along with Pune Warriors India had joined the 8 city-based franchises after the first three seasons of the Indian Premier League received immense success.
Kochi Cricket Private Limited, which was a group of multiple companies, owned this franchise which made the headlines for various controversies. The BCCI terminated the Kochi franchise, 3 months after their debut season for breaching the terms of contract.

There were talks of the Kochi franchise returning to the IPL in 2016 however, the legal battle between BCCI and Kochi Tuskers Kerala owners has not ended yet.
The Kochi Tuskers Kerala had played 14 matches in their short existence. In those 14 matches, they had defeated the likes of Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings.
In this article, we will have a look at the 28 players who were a part of the Kochi Tuskers Kerala squad in 2011 and where they are now.
#1 Mahela Jayawardene
Mahela Jayawardene was the skipper of the Kochi Tuskers Kerala in IPL 2011. The Sri Lankan legend led the Kochi franchise in 13 matches before he had to leave for national duty ahead of the team's last league match against Chennai Super Kings.
Jayawardene scored 299 runs for the Kochi team, which included 3 half-centuries. The KTK captain had a highest score of 76 that season. He had a poor average of 23 with the bat.
The Sri Lankan legend then moved to the Delhi Daredevils next season after the disbandment of the Kochi franchise. Currently, Jayawardene is a part of the coaching staff of Mumbai Indians.
#2 Balachandra Akhil
Kochi Tuskers Kerala had signed Karnataka-born domestic all-rounder Balachandra Akhil ahead of the 2011 IPL season. The medium pace bowling all-rounder represented the Kochi Tuskers Kerala in only one match. The all-rounder's services proved to be ineffective against the Delhi Daredevils, as he leaked 21 runs in his 2 wicketless overs, along with scoring only 13 runs with the bat.
Akhil played for his home state, Karnataka in the domestic circuit from 1998 to 2009 however, he never got a chance to play for India at the international level. Akhil was a part of the Kannada commentary panel for the 2018 IPL season along with the likes of Sunil Joshi and Gundappa Vishwanath.
The all-rounder is now 40 years old and his last major appearance in the cricket field was as the captain of Karnataka Premier League franchise, Namma Shivamogga.
#3 Brad Hodge
Australian all-rounder Brad Hodge was one of the four players who played for Kochi Tuskers Kerala in the team's all 14 matches. Hodge scored 285 runs with the bat, which included a solitary half-century. Hodge's highest score for the Kochi Tuskers Kerala was 51.
However, the T20 format's veteran had performed better with the ball for Kochi as he had the best bowling for a Kochi Tuskers Kerala bowler that season. In a league match against the Rajasthan Royals, Brad Hodge took 4 wickets, conceding only 13 runs which helped Kochi restrict Rajasthan to a total of just 97 runs. Hodge had picked 7 wickets in total, that season for KTK.
The Aussie then played for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL before transforming into the role of a coach. He was the head coach of Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2018.
#4 Deepak Chowgle
Deepak Chowgle made a name for himself at the U-13 level itself when he scored 400 runs in a single day making his debut for Karnataka against Goa. However, the player never made it big in the domestic circuit which led to him getting lost in the mix.
Chowgle was even a part of the Indian U-19 World Cup squad in the year 2002, where he batted for India at no. 3. Deepak was amongst the uncapped batsmen, that Kochi Tuskers Kerala had signed ahead of their maiden IPL season.
Deepak never played a single IPL match despite being a part of Kochi Tuskers Kerala in IPL 2011. He then played in the Karnataka Premier League, where he was a part of the Bijapur Bulls squad.
Chowgle was appointed as the coach of the Karnataka U-19 team for the 2018-19 IPL season.
#5 Michael Klinger
Michael Klinger is perhaps the most underrated Australian opener in the history of cricket. The Aussie opener made headlines for his stupendous performances while playing for the South Australia Redbacks in the Champions League T20. His brilliant form in the CLT20 led to the Kochi Tuskers Kerala signing him ahead of the 2011 IPL season.
Klinger donned the purple and orange jersey of Kochi Tuskers Kerala in 4 matches, where he scored 73 runs at an average of 18.25. The Australian batsman could not make it big in the Indian Premier League, as he had a highest score of just 29 runs that season.
The T20 veteran announced his retirement from the Big Bash League after the 38-year-old played for the Perth Scorchers in the 2019 season.
#6 VVS Laxman
Popularly known as Very Very Special Laxman, VVS Laxman did not have a special record while playing for the Kochi Tuskers Kerala in IPL 2011. VVS Laxman had played for the Deccan Chargers in the initial seasons of the IPL before he moved to the Kochi Tuskers Kerala ahead of the 2011 season.
In the 3 matches he played for Kochi Tuskers Kerala, VVS Laxman could score only 44 runs at an underwhelming average of 14.66. His innings of 36 runs on his IPL debut for Kochi Tuskers Kerala was his best for the franchise.
Currently, VVS Laxman has turned into a cricket expert and cricket commentator. The Hyderabad-born veteran is the mentor of his home franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. His ability to develop players has played a huge role in the success of Sunriser Hyderabad in the cash-rich league.
#7 Owais Shah
England's middle order batsman, Owais Shah played for Kochi Tuskers Kerala in 3 matches of IPL 2011. In the 3 matches he played, Owais received a chance of batting only twice in which he scored 26 runs. His best performances of the season came against the Kings XI Punjab at Indore where he scored 23 runs before he was run out by Adam Gilchrist.
Shah even showcased his fielding skills by taking 2 catches in the 3 matches he played. The English player then moved to the Rajasthan Royals after Kochi Tuskers Kerala left the Indian Premier League.
Owais Shah was in the race to become the new coach of Indian women's team in December 2018, however he could not get that position. Shah has been associated with cricket despite not being a part of the England team since many years
#8 Steven Smith
The former captain of Australian cricket team, Steven Smith was in the Kochi Tuskers Kerala squad for IPL 2011. However, the Aussie all-rounder got injured ahead of the IPL season which led to him pulling out of the tournament.
Smith was not that big a player in 2011 as the fans looked at him as a leg-spinner who could smash some lusty blows down the order. Smith has evolved as a player ever since and is currently one of the top batsmen of the world.
The star Australian player is a part of the Rajasthan Royals squad now as he would make his return to IPL after serving a ban because of the infamous ball-tampering scandal. It is not clear yet whether Steve will make it to the IPL or not as he is currently dealing with an injury.
#9 Yashpal Singh
Yashpal Singh made a name for himself by playing for Services at the domestic level. The veteran was the first Services player to make it to the Indian Premier League after Kolkata Knight Riders picked him in the pre-season auction. He played a few matches in the league, before Kolkata Knight Riders released him ahead of the 2011 season.
Kochi Tuskers Kerala snapped him up in the auction but unfortunately, Yashpal did not get a chance to play for the Kerala franchise even once in the season. With the likes of VVS Laxman, Michael Klinger and Mahela Jayawardene in the squad, an inexperienced Yashpal could not get an opportunity to play.
After representing the Services team for nearly 15 years, Yashpal Singh switched to Manipur, where he was the leading run-scorer for the team in the 2018-19 domestic season.
#10 Tanmay Srivastava
Tanmay Srivastava, the left-handed batsman was one of the young stars who made it to the Indian Premier League in the league's first season itself. After finishing the U-19 World Cup as the team's highest run scorer, Kings XI Punjab signed Tanmay ahead of the 2008 season.
The young star played for Kings XI Punjab from 2008-2010. The Preity Zinta owned franchise released him ahead of the 2011 season as Kochi Tuskers Kerala picked the stalwart next. Tanmay could not make it to the playing XI of the Kochi Tuskers Kerala even once as he kept warming the bench the entire season.
After the disbandment of Kochi Tuskers Kerala, Tanmay Srivastava moved to the Deccan Chargers. The Uttar Pradesh-born batsman played his last first class game on 16th November in a match between Uttar Pradesh and Mumbai.
#11 Gnaneswara Rao
Yalaka Gnaneswaran Rao made his IPL debut playing for the Kochi Tuskers Kerala in the 2011 season on IPL. In the two matches he played for the Kochi franchise that season, he got a chance to bat in only one innings. In the 64th match of the 2011 season, he came out in the middle to bat against a strong Chennai Super Kings bowling attack.
Y G Rao hit 19 runs in his only IPL innings of his career. With the ball, he bowled just 1 over in which he conceded 7 runs. He took 2 catches while fielding for Kochi Tuskers Kerala in the 2 matches he played.
Rao was once the captain of the Indian U-19 team which had the likes of Suresh Raina, Irfan Pathan and Ambati Rayudu. However, Rao could not make it big as he played his last first class match for his home state, Andhra Pradesh back in November 2011.
#12 Raiphi Gomez
Raiphi Gomez made it to the Indian Premier League first in the year 2009 when the defending champions, Rajasthan Royals picked him up in the auction, making him only the second Kerala-born to join an IPL. However, the franchise released him next year. In 2010, Gomez found no buyers but the new franchise Kochi Tuskers Kerala signed him ahead of the 2011 season.
Born in Trivandrum of Kerala he was one of the few local players who played for Kochi Tuskers Kerala. He represented Kochi Tuskers in 11 matches where the all-rounder hit 46 runs with the bat along with scalping 5 wickets with his medium pace.
He next played for Pune Warriors India in the 2013 season before his poor performances led to franchises showing no interest in him. The 33-year-old Gomez recently joined Pondicherry for the 2018-19 domestic season.
#13 John Hastings
Australian fast-bowling all-rounder was a part of the Kochi Tuskers Kerala squad in the 2011 IPL season, however a pre-season injury led to his withdrawal from the squad. Hastings never played for the Kochi Tuskers Kerala franchise despite being a part of the squad.
He, along with Steve Smith could not play in the 2011 IPL for the Kochi Tuskers Kerala because of injuries. After the disbandment of Kochi Tuskers Kerala, Hastings played for MS Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. He played his last IPL season for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the year 2016.
Hastings has represented Australia at the international level in all the 3 formats but because of his injury issues, his career never took off. John played his last international match in 2016 after which he has been playing in the domestic leagues worldwide.
#14 Ravindra Jadeja
In 2011, Saurashtra-born Ravindra Jadeja was just placing his feet in international cricket when Kochi Tuskers Kerala bought him in the IPL auction. The left-arm spin bowling all-rounder played all 14 matches for the Kochi Tuskers Kerala.
In those 14 matches, he scored 283 runs at an average of 31.44. He had a highest score of 47 that season. Jadeja was one of the few bright spots of the Kochi Tuskers Kerala campaign in 2011. He even picked up 8 wickets for the franchise at an average of 38.12.
Currently, Ravindra Jadeja is an integral part of the Indian test team as the Royal Rajput has helped India win major test matches with his all-round skills. With the 2019 World Cup on head, he would try to sneak into the World Cup squad by playing well in the domestic circuit.
#15 Kedar Jadhav
Kedar Jadhav was amongst the Indian uncapped players that Kochi Tuskers Kerala signed ahead of the 2011 season. The short heighted Indian batsman was the back-up wicket-keeper for the newly formed franchise.
Jadhav played 6 matches for the Kochi Tuskers Kerala where he could score only 18 runs at an average of 6.00. He had a highest score of 12, which shows how poorly he performed for the Tuskers.

He later moved on to the Delhi Capitals, where his fine performances led to him earning his maiden Indian international cap. The wicket-keeper has now transformed into an all-rounder and regularly plays for India at the international level. He is a part of the Chennai Super Kings squad for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League.
#16 Steve O' Keefe
Steve O' Keefe, the Australian spin bowling all-rounder was a part of the Kochi Tuskers Kerala squad in the IPL 2011. Till date, Kochi Tuskers Kerala is the only franchise that the Malaysia-born player has been a part of. The left-arm orthodox spinner has never played an IPL match in his career.
Kochi Tuskers Kerala picked him up in the auction at a price of $ 20,000. However, all O' Keefe did was warm the bench the entire season. With a ton of talent present in the Kochi Tuskers Kerala squad, the Aussie could never make it to the playing XI.
O'Keefe proved to be a great spinner for Australia in test match cricket as he has 35 wickets to his name in the 9 matches he played. However, his last international appearance for Australia came way back in September 2017 in a test match against Bangladesh.
#17 Thisara Perera
Kochi Tuskers Kerala snapped the Sri Lankan all-rounder, Thisara Perera in the 2011 IPL auction to bolster their lower middle over and also their pace department. Perera represented the Kochi franchise in 4 matches, where he aggregated 23 runs in 2 innings.
The left-handed explosive batsman had a highest score of 22. With his medium pace, he scalped 2 wickets in the 14 overs he bowled. Looking at his performance in the international level, it can be said that Perera failed to live up to his talent in the 2011 season of IPL.
After leaving Kochi Tuskers Kerala in 2011, Perera played for Mumbai Indians (2012), Sunrisers Hyderabad (2013), Kings XI Punjab (2014-15) and Rising Pune Supergiant (2016) in the IPL. He went unsold in this year's IPL auction. Currently, the all-rounder plays for Sri Lanka in the limited overs matches at the international level.
#18 Padmanabhan Prasanth
Kerala-born all-rounder Padmanabhan Prasanth played his only IPL season for the Kochi Tuskers Kerala in 2011. The all-rounder represented his home franchise in only a single match where he did not get a chance to bat. In the 1 over he bowled in that match, he conceded 18 runs.
He played his only IPL match against the Rajasthan Royals at the Holkar Stadium which Kochi Tuskers Kerala won comprehensively. After the termination of Kochi Tuskers Kerala, Sunrisers Hyderabad picked this all-rounder for 10 lakhs INR.
However, he could not make it to the playing XI of the Hyderabad franchise after which the franchise released him. P Prasanth kept on playing for Kerala in the domestic circuit with his last domestic match for Kerala being a T20 match against Andhra Pradesh on 11 January 2018.
#19 Parthiv Patel
Parthiv Patel was the primary wicket-keeper of the Kochi Tuskers Kerala in the 2011 IPL season. He played all 14 matches for the south Indian franchise in their only season. Parthiv Patel scored 202 runs for the franchise with the bat at an average of 20.20.
Behind the stumps, Parthiv Patel took 8 catches along with executing 1 successful stumping. He even captained the Kochi Tuskers Kerala in their last league match against the Chennai Super Kings. However, he could inspire his team to a victory as MS Dhoni's men won the match by a margin of 11 runs.
Presently, Parthiv Patel has become an IPL legend having been a part of almost all the IPL franchises. After leaving Kochi Tuskers Kerala, the Gujarati player played for Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad. Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians before returning to the Royal Challengers side once again in 2018.
#20 Brendon McCullum
New Zealand's wicket-keeper batsman made his IPL debut playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2008. He stayed with the Kolkata franchise for 3 seasons before switching to the Kochi Tuskers Kerala for the 2011 season.
He played 13 matches for the Kochi Tuskers and was the highest run scorer for them with a tally of 357 runs. McCullum had a highest score of 81 that season. The Kiwi star also took 2 catches while fielding for the franchise.
Currently, McCullum has retired from all forms of international cricket. This year he also announced his retirement from the Big Bash League of Australia.

He achieved immense success as an aggressive batsman both at the international and club level. However, he went unsold in the 2019 IPL auction.
#21 Chandan Madan
Punjab-born wicket-keeper batsman, Chandan Madan earned an IPL contract from Kochi Tuskers Kerala in 2011 on the virtue of his fantastic performances at the domestic level. Madan was earlier a part of the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2010 where he played his only IPL match against the Delhi Capitals at the Brabourne Stadium.
Madan did not get a chance to play for the Kochi Tuskers Kerala in even a single match because of the presence of specialist wicket-keepers like Parthiv Patel and Brendon McCullum. The domestic talent never joined any IPL franchise after the disbandment of Kochi Tuskers Kerala.
He represented Punjab in domestic competitions till 2013, having made his debut for his home state way back in 2002/03. Madan is currently 36 years old and the wicket-keeper batsman is not active in the domestic circuit of cricket.
#22 Sushant Marathe
Another local wicket-keeper batsman who was a part of the Kochi Tuskers Kerala squad but never made it to the playing XI was Sushant Marathe. Kochi Tuskers Kerala was the first IPL franchise who recruited the Mumbai-born Sushant Marathe for his wicket-keeping services.
Marathe, just like Chandan Madan failed to make his IPL debut for Kochi Tuskers Kerala due to the presence of international wicket-keepers Parthiv Patel and Brendon McCullum in the squad.
Mumbai Indians snapped up Sushant Marathe next. However, the wicket-keeper batsman's poor luck continued at his home franchise as he never made his IPL debut. Marathe played his last match for Mumbai in the year 2014 and has not been a part of the Mumbai domestic team in any format ever since. Marathe was once a part of the Indian U-19 team as well.
#23 Vinay Kumar
Karnataka's right-arm pacer, Vinay Kumar was in the news for his superb performances at the domestic level for his home state. This led to the Kochi Tuskers Kerala buying the medium fast pacer in the 2011 IPL auction. Vinay represented the Kochi Tuskers Kerala in 13 matches.
However, he could not set the stage on fire with his bowling as he managed a tally of just 4 wickets in that IPL season. Of those 4 wickets, 3 came in one match against the Deccan Chargers which show how inconsistent Kumar was with his bowling.
Vinay Kumar then returned to the Royal Challengers Bangalore where he stayed till 2013. Kolkata Knight Riders picked him next before he joined the Mumbai Indians in 2015. The pacer once again joined Kolkata in the year 2018.
#24 S Sreesanth
Sreesanth was seen as the next big thing in Indian cricket after the Kerala-born pacer played a crucial role to help India win the ICC WT20 in 2007. Sreesanth was also a part of the Indian squad that lifted the ICC World Cup in 2011. So, the owners of the Kochi Tuskers Kerala expected a lot from the experienced bowler ahead of the 2011 season.
But, Sreesanth had a disappointing IPL campaign in 2011 as he could pick only 7 wickets in the 9 matches he played for Kochi Tuskers Kerala. Also, he had an average of 29.42 which is not so good for a bowler like Sreesanth.
Sreesanth then moved to the Rajasthan Royals where he was involved in a match-fixing scandal which led to the BCCI imposing a life ban on him. The former Indian pacer has worked in movies and reality shows after the match-fixing scandal.
#25 RP Singh
Rudra Pratap Singh had won the purple cap playing for the Deccan Chargers in the IPL before he joined the Kochi Tuskers Kerala in 2011. Thus, RP Singh was the spearhead of the Kochi Tuskers Kerala bowling attack.
He played all the 14 matches for Kochi Tuskers Kerala where he picked up 13 wickets which included a four-wicket haul. Singh had the highest number of wickets for a Kochi Tuskers Kerala bowler that season as he led the bowling attack of Kochi by example in 2011.
RP Singh played for a lot of IPL teams before he retired from all forms of cricket.

Currently, RP Singh works as a commentator. The Uttar Pradesh born pacer was a part of the Hindi commentary panel of the IPL.
#26 Ramesh Powar
Former Indian off-spinner, Ramesh Powar played 5 matches for the Kochi Tuskers Kerala in the 2011 IPL season. The Nagpur-born spinner was earlier a part of the Kings XI Punjab from 2008 to 2010 before the Kochi Tuskers Kerala signed him in 2011.
In the 5 matches he played for the Kochi Tuskers Kerala, where he scalped 2 wickets at an average of 55.50. He failed to impress the fans with his bowling.
Powar played his last IPL season in 2012 as a part of the Kings XI Punjab. The off-spinner performed well in the domestic circuit for Mumbai, Rajasthan and Gujarat before he became the coach of the Indian women's team. However, some controversial selection decisions led to his ouster from that position. Ramesh Powar is also one of the 3 Indian players to have played in a T20 league other than IPL.

#27 Prasanth Parmeswaran
An unknown bowler from the villages of Kerala, Prasanth Parmeswaran made the headlines after winning the man of the match award in his first ever IPL match. On his debut against the Delhi Capitals, Prasanth Parmeswaran bowled a dream spell which helped his team win the match. He even dismissed star Indian opener, Virender Sehwag in that match.
However, Parmeswaran could not maintain his consistency as he failed to repeat that performance from the first match. In a match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, Parmeswaran conceded 37 runs in an over, which is a record till date.
Parmeswaran played 5 matches for Kochi Tuskers Kerala in 2011, where he scalped 4 wickets. He later joined the Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2012 before moving to the Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2014. He played his last first class match in 2015.
#28 Muttiah Muralitharan
Sri Lankan spin bowling legend, Muttiah Muralitharan played for the Chennai Super Kings in the first 3 seasons of the Indian Premier League before he moved to the Kochi Tuskers Kerala in the year 2011.
The off-spinner played 5 matches for Kochi where he picked 2 wickets in the 19 overs he bowled. Murali then moved to Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2012. He played 3 seasons for RCB.
Currently, Muralitharan has retired from all forms of cricket and has turned into a cricket expert. During one of his recent interviews, Muralitharan had told that India's R Ashwin is the best off-spinner in the world at the moment.
