Dwayne Smith has played for four different franchises in the IPL- the Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Deccan Chargers and Gujarat Lions. Smith played three seasons for the Mumbai franchise- (2008, 2012, 2013) and two seasons for the Super Kings (2014 and 2015). In 2013, he won the title with the Mumbai Indians under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy and in 2015 was a part of the CSK squad that finished as the runners-up to Mumbai.

An experienced T20 campaigner, Smith has played for various teams in the Big Bash League, Bangladesh Premier League, and the Pakistan Super League. He is the fifth highest run-getter in the Mumbai-Chennai having scored 428 runs. In the 2012 edition, Smith playing his first match of the season won the match for Mumbai scoring three consecutive boundaries in the last over off Ben Hilfenhaus in which they needed sixteen runs. Overall, in 76 IPL matches, Smith has scored 2103 runs at a strike-rate of 134.20, with his highest score being 87*. He has 19 wickets to his name at an economy of 9.29 and is a handy bowler too.
