The thirteenth season of the Indian Premier League is just a few months away as the cricket fans are prepping up for yet another action-packed six weeks of T20 cricket. Mumbai Indians has been the most successful team in the IPL history with 4 IPL titles in 12 seasons while Chennai Super Kings has been in the top 4 during all the seasons they have played.

Besides, Chennai Super Kings have also won the IPL title thrice. The Shahrukh Khan-owned Kolkata Knight Riders franchise has won the championship two times and apart from Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals and Kings XI Punjab, all the teams have won the title once.

While the championship wins indicate a team’s dominance, the winning percentage gives a clearer picture. Hence, let us have a look at all the eight teams’ ranking based on their win percentage:

#8 Delhi Capitals - 44.00%

Delhi Capitals
Delhi Capitals

The Delhi-based IPL franchise, Delhi Capitals (formerly known as Delhi Daredevils) has featured in all the 12 editions of IPL. They are the only one from the first eight teams to have never played an IPL final. Delhi has played 177 IPL matches in the last 12 years but registered only 77 wins.

Their best performance came in the year 2012 when they finished at the top of the points table. However, they squandered both of their opportunities in the playoffs to crash out of the tourney. The Capitals had finished third in IPL 2019 as well. Their winning percentage is the lowest because they had taken the wooden spoon home in 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2018.

#7 Kings XI Punjab - 46.02%

Just like Delhi, Kings XI Punjab has been a part of the tourney since 2008 yet they have no trophies in their cabinet. The Mohali-based franchise had almost won their first title in 2014 but a special innings from Manish Pandey in the final match denied KXIP a historic victory.

Their performance has been disappointing in the last three seasons as they have finished at the last spot twice. RCB have also had a stellar unit by their side and the franchise will look to end its drought of IPL trophies in 2020.

The inaugural champions of the IPL, Rajasthan Royals have always been the underdogs in the eight-team competition. Before 2018, the Jaipur-based franchise always concentrated on the young talent. They have played a key role in nurturing the talents of Ajinkya Rahane, Sanju Samson, Ravindra Jadeja, Karun Nair and Yusuf Pathan.

In the last two years, the owners have a lot of money to sign big names but; the team has not lifted the cup since season two. They never taken the wooden spoon home, and they have recorded 75 victories in their 147 IPL games.

One of the three IPL franchises to have won the IPL title on more than occasion, Kolkata Knight Riders did not perform well in the first three IPL seasons. They finished at the eighth position in 2009 but their fortunes changed when the team management recruited Gautam Gambhir in the team.

The left-handed batsman took over the reins of the team and guided Kolkata to title wins in 2012 and 2014. They have been one of the most dominant IPL units in the past 8 years but the team missed out on a playoff berth in 2019. Kolkata has won 92 of its 178 matches in the IPL.

#3 Sunrisers Hyderabad - 53.70%

Sunrisers Hyderabad
Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunrisers Hyderabad joined the Indian Premier League in 2013 and they made it to the playoffs in their debut season itself. The Orange Army has not looked back ever since then as three years later, they captured their first IPL championship. Overseas stars like David Warner, Kane Williamson, Eoin Morgan, Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan have been a part of this franchise.

They even qualified for the playoffs in 2019 however, the Delhi Capitals knocked them out in the Eliminator. Hyderabad has played 108 IPL matches, recording 58 wins and 50 losses.

#2 Mumbai Indians - 57.75%

Just like the Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians could not make an impact in the first two seasons of the IPL. They took time to find their feet in the competition and they developed consistency from 2010 onwards. Mumbai finished as the runners-up in the third IPL season. It took them three more years to win the tournament.

Their win percentage was not great in the earlier few seasons but the 4 title wins in the last 7 seasons has changed the game for Mumbai Indians. The Mukesh Ambani-owned franchise has the highest brand value in IPL. Besides, they are also the defending champions of IPL and have won 109 of their 187 fixtures.
