Two of IPL’s heavyweight squads face off today as the Mumbai Indians take on the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Wankhede, Mumbai. It promises to be a great contest, as the Mumbai Indians will look to get their campaign back on track, one that is currently spiraling downwards at the moment. On paper, RCB have Mitchell Starc and

Samuel Badree. Two unbelievable bowlers. Injuries for both the players kicked in at just the wrong time and you have to feel for the Bangalore franchise. The whole face of the bowling would change with these two bowlers fit. Catch the live commentary for today’s IPL match between Mumbai Indians (MI) vs Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) here with us.

Big news ahead of today's game, who will replace the dashing opener? Travis Head? Or they may choose to change the combination by bringing in Kane Richardson as an extra bowler, Watson or AB could be promoted to open the batting.

MUMBAI INDIANS overview:

It almost seems a bad year to be reigning champions, Chelsea Football Club can certainly testify to that having had a shocker of a year. A little too early to rule out Mumbai though, last year they lost their first 5 games only to go on a remarkable winning streak to end as Champions. This season, they have gotten off to a slightly better start, only in comparison to the last, having managed one solitary win in their first 4 games. They can take confidence from the fact that their one win came against one of the stronger sides, the KKR, in their own backyard. In their other 3 encounters, against the Rising Pune Supergiants, Gujarat Lions & Sunrisers Hyderabad, they have batted first and faltered on each occasion, managing totals of only 121, 143 & 142 respectively. They have just not put enough runs on the board to give their bowlers a decent chance.

WHY HAS THEIR BATTING FAILED?

OVER RELIANCE ON ROHIT: It would take a foolish man to believe the fact that the one game that Mumbai has won, is the only game that their skipper Rohit has performed it. He needs to step up.

TAMPERING WITH THE BATTING ORDER: The world’s best bookies wouldn’t be able to predict a batting order for Mumbai. They are being shuffled all over the place, and it is affecting the team. They need to decide & stick to a batting order to provide stability.

POLLARD's FALL FROM GRACE: Kieron Pollard used to be an absolute superstar. He was the IPL’s biggest draw. He could turn a game on his head with his explosive batting. All this seems to be a distant memory now. He needs to step up, provided he plays.

SIMMONS INJURY: Lendl Simmons is a crucial cog in the MI line up, his injury in the first game has cost them dear. Martin Guptill has been called in for him, he has played only one game, so it’s too early to decide.

ROYAL CHALLENGERS BANGALORE

The RCB were having an absolute party. Their superstars were firing at the top, barring Gayle, young Sarfaraz was looking good, Watson made 9.5 crores seem like a bargain, everything seemed to be alright. There was a whole vibe that they were going to be unstoppable this year. All of this came crashing down with Quinton de Kock. That wasn’t part of the script. On a warm evening in Bangalore, QDK came out to bat, chasing 192, he absolutely destroyed RCB’s bowling line up, exposing weaknesses that seemed to be getting bigger with the over, there was a vulnerability that you wouldn’t normally associate with them, it was all laid bare in front of the watching world, a shocked Chinnaswamy Stadium watched as QDK scored 108 off 51 balls to lift the Delhi Daredevils to victory.

Not the time to ring the alarm balls just yet though for the RCB though, they have only played two games. One win and one loss isn’t bad by any stretch of imagination. Their batsmen will carry them over the line most of the time; they just need to worry about the bowling.

News has come in that Chris Gayle will miss the next couple of games for the team, might be a blessing in disguise, as it gives them a chance to experiment with the squad early in the season.

PITCH CONDITIONS

Should be a batters delight tomorrow, which should delight the crowd. Expect plenty of runs as the crowd in Wankhede get to enjoy the second last game in the ground due to the IPL being shifted out of Maharashtra after April.

WEATHER CONDITIONS

Humidity is the order of the day at this part of the year in Mumbai, so we can expect another humid day, not too hot, but sometimes humidity can be worse. A maximum of 33 and minimum of 28 degrees centigrade is expected. No chance of rain.
