In their last match of the IPL 2023 group stage, Mumbai Indians (MI) will go head-to-head against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Match 69 of the tournament. The much-awaited fixture will be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday, May 21.

The two teams met earlier in the competition in Hyderabad, where MI recorded a 14-run triumph over the Orange Army.

Mumbai will be needing a win to remain in the hunt for qualification. They are currently sixth on the table with seven wins and six losses after 13 games.

Hyderabad, meanwhile, are at the foot of the table with only four wins across 13 games. A win over MI will see them finish second last, above Delhi Capitals.

Before the game between MI and SRH, here's a look at the pitch history of the Wankhede Stadium.

The pitch at Wankhede Stadium helps the batters a lot. The pacers and spinners receive some help from the surface, but the batters end up dominating the contest.

With the average first innings total in the last five games at the venue being over 205, batters from both units will be licking their lips and aim to give their side the upper hand in the encounter.

However, the last day game at the Wankhede Stadium saw a bit of turn for the spinners. Tweakers took six of the 11 wickets that fall that day. That said, Venkatesh Iyer, who scored his maiden IPL century, showcased that the red soil at the surface can be trusted and batters should go ahead with their natural shots.

Mumbai Indians trounced Gujarat Titans (GT) in the last game hosted by Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

It seemed like the match was between Rashid Khan and the Mumbai Indians as none of the other players from the Gujarat camp could impress much.

After asking MI to bat first at the Wankhede Stadium, GT bowlers leaked 218/5 in the first innings. Ishan Kishan and Vishnu Vinod scored 31 and 30 respectively, while Suryakumar Yadav hit his maiden IPL century, smashing an unbeaten 103 off just 49 balls. He was truly outstanding on the day and clobbered 11 fours and six maximums to take MI to a gigantic first-innings score.

In their defense of 219, Mumbai bowlers wreaked havoc right from the start. They took the first five wickets inside eight overs and reduced the visitors to 103/8 after 13.2 overs.

However, Rashid Khan didn't give up and smoked three fours and ten sixes to bring up his career-best 32-ball 79*. His unbelievable knock reduced the winning margin as MI registered their seventh victory of the season by 27 runs.

Akash Madhwal, who was substituted in for the second innings, was the pick of the bowlers for MI and took 3/31. Piyush Chawla and Kumar Kartikeya also took two wickets each.
