As the quote goes "Batsmen win you matches but bowlers win you tournaments." This has obtained special recognition especially in the T20 format of the game. Some of the underdogs in the history of IPL have been victorious not because they had heavyweight batsman but because they possessed a solid bowling unit.

The IPL auctions in the last few years are witnessing the same as well. Teams are heavily investing in bowlers and all-rounders and bowlers who boast variations have been the need of the hour for every IPL team.

However, some of these bowlers have registered a top status for the teams they have plied their trade for in the IPL by picking up the most wickets for that particular franchise in their history.

Let us take a look at the highest wicket-takers for each team in the IPL:


Rajasthan Royals - Shane Watson

The Rajasthan Royals won the IPL in the inaugural edition against all the odds and Watson was instrumental in their success. He has played a total of 78 matches for the Royals and has scalped 67 wickets.

His best seasons for the Royals has been the 2008 and 2013 editions of the IPL where he took 17 and 13 wickets respectively at an economy rate of 7.07 and 7.15 which is extremely impressive given the competitiveness of the IPL.

After representing RCB in the last two editions of the IPL, the all-rounder will now ply his trade for the CSK camp after being purchased for Rs. 4 Crores.

Wrist spinners are the real deal in the limited overs format of the game and Amit Mishra has been absolutely phenomenal over the years in the IPL irrespective of the team he plays for in the thoroughly competitive IPL tournament.

Mishra represented Delhi from 2008 to 2010 in his first spell and has been part of the DD squadron again from 2015. By far, he has been their most successful bowler in the IPL. His strike rate of 19.5 in the IPL underlines his effectiveness in the shortest format of the game.

With a total of 78 wickets till date, Mishra is poised to add to that tally after he was auctioned by the DD for the next 3 seasons of the IPL.

The local lad and the golden boy of Karnataka Ranji team represented RCB for 5 seasons in the history of the IPL and has made the most of it. In spite of not achieving much success in the international arena, Kumar is a giant presence in the domestic circuit.

Talking about the IPL, he boasts a strike rate of 20.36 which asserts his quality in the shortest format of the game. While playing for the RCB outfit, Kumar has scalped a total of 80 wickets which is currently trailed by Yuzvendra Chahal at 70.

Kumar hasn't played for RCB since 2013 and will continue to be a part of the IPL with Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2018 IPL season.

In just 4 years, Kumar has taken an astonishing 87 wickets which nothing but shows the consistency of the lad in the toughest league in the world. In addition to this, his bowling economy of 7.25 combined with his ability to bowl at the death has made him one of the best T20 bowlers in the world.

He has missed out on the purple cap just by 1 wicket on two occasions and given his ability to aggressively open the innings makes him one of the most valuable players in the IPL.

He has scalped a superb number of wickets in 6 seasons as his tally stands at 113 at the moment and it is bound to increase rapidly in the forthcoming years of the tournament.

Chennai Super Kings - Ravichandran Ashwin

In the 2018 edition of the IPL Ashwin will play for the Kings XI Punjab franchise who have gone on to hand the captaincy responsibilities to the experienced spinner.

He has played only for the Mumbai Indians in 10 seasons of the IPL and boasts a record of taking 154 wickets in the IPL which is highest by a margin of 30. In addition to these staggering figures, his overall tally is at 179 for the Mumbai Indians at an outstanding economy rate of 6.88.

Unfortunately, he attracted no bidder in the 2018 IPL Auction and this has led to Malinga contemplating retirement after a stellar career with MI that consists of 3 IPL titles and 2 Champions League trophies.
