The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will square off against the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Qualifier 1 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Tuesday, May 21. It is a clash between the top two teams after the league phase of the tournament.

KKR finished at the top of the pile with 20 points from 14 games, including nine wins and three defeats. Two games were abandoned without a ball being bowled due to inclement weather conditions.

SRH, meanwhile, leapfrogged the Rajasthan Royals (RR) on net run rate (NRR) to finish second in the points table. The SunRisers boasted an NRR of +0.414 as compared to RR's +0.273.

The two top-performing teams will look to put their best feet forward in a bid to book a berth for Sunday's final. While KKR lead 17-9 in overall head-to-head meetings, Hyderabad will likely give a tough fight tonight. Thus, a cracking contest is on the cards and fans are expected to fill the Narendra Modi Stadium in huge numbers.

Much to the delight of fans, there is no forecast for rain on Tuesday in Ahmedabad. Thus, a full 40-over game is on the cards. Cloud cover will also be very insignificant. However, the temperature will be on the higher side, ranging between 39 and 42 degrees Celsius. Much to the relief of players, the humidity will also be low, ranging in the 20s.

"I can just see him be accelerated to the Indian team in a heartbeat" - Tom Moody on SRH opener Abhishek Sharma

Young SunRisers Hyderabad opener Abhishek Sharma has been a standout performer in this year's IPL. With 467 runs in 13 matches, Abhishek is the ninth-highest scorer in the tournament at a strike rate of almost 210. The southpaw has struck 41 sixes so far, which is the highest by a batter this season.

Former SRH coach Tom Moody praised the young batter, saying that Abhishek can easily be accelerated to the Indian team.

"It's always nice to see a young, emerging talent capture the imagination and have an impact in that season," Moody said on ESPNCricinfo's show Timeout. "Abhishek is the stand out [uncapped Indian player] for me. What he has done this year consistently at the top of the order for Sunrisers has been wonderful to watch, and I can just see him be accelerated to the Indian team in a heartbeat."
