SK Cricket Trivia: IPL Playoffs through the years: How well do you remember the playoff stages?

The IPL 2017 playoffs are upon us as table toppers Mumbai Indians get ready to take on their neighbours Rising Pune Supergiant in the first playoff at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai on May 16.

The loser of the match will go on to the second playoff where they will await the winner of the match between the Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad who will face off in the eliminator on May 17 in Bengaluru.

The format of the playoffs is extremely interesting but as we all know, this was not how the IPL started. For the first few years, the top 4 teams would play a knockout game in the semifinals and the winners of those 2 matches would face off in the final.

The playoffs which were introduced later on gave the first and second place teams a better chance to reach the final and made the post league stage extremely interesting.
