Riyan Parag IPL Career

Riyan Parag plays in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals primarily as a middle-order batter and occasionally as a spin bowler. In his debut year, Parag got few opportunities to bat and managed to score 160 runs in just five innings.

In 2020, Parag played all of the matches for his team but failed to mimic his previous year’s performance. He scored only 86 runs, at an average of 12.28 and a strike rate of 111.68. However, he did manage to win a match for Rajasthan Royals against Sunrisers Hyderabad by scoring an unbeaten 42 off 26. His bowling was not utilized completely as Parag got to bowl only a couple of overs, in which he got hit for 27 runs.

The following year in 2021, Parag performed even worse. He scored only 93 runs in 10 matches at an average of 11.62. His bowling couldn't compensate for his poor batting performance, as he had an economy of 11.83 and managed to pluck only one wicket.

In the 2022 edition of the IPL, Parag featured in 17 matches. He batted down the order which did make him improve his strike rate to 138.64 but his consistency did not improve. Parag scored 183 runs in 14 innings at an average of 16.64.

The 2023 IPL season was his worst season. Parag featured in just seven matches and managed to score only 78 runs at an average of 13.00, striking at 118.18. Riyan plays for the same franchise (Rajasthan Royals) in the 2024 IPL.

‘Riyan Parag’ IPL Auction Price

Riyan Parag was bought by Rajasthan Royals in 2019 for the base price of INR 20 Lakh. He was retained by Rajasthan Royals for the next couple of years but was released in 2022 before the Mega IPL Auction. Delhi Capitals, Chennai Super Kings, and Gujarat Titans were bidding aggressively but in the end, Rajasthan Royals got to buy the all-rounder for INR 3.80 Crores.

As per the official IPL site, Parag is retained by the Rajasthan Royals franchise for the same sum (INR 3.80 crore) in the 2024 IPL auction as well.
