Shivam Dubey and Varun Charavarthy: Two stars at the IPL 2019 auction
So, the day finally arrived when players go under the hammer. Every cricket enthusiast is excited by IPL auction and waits for this event. This time though, the auction is not a mega auction like the previous one. Most of the teams are looking to fill in some spots in their team and some teams like the Kings XI Punjab are almost bidding for a new team.
The IPL auction took place at the Marriot hotel in Jaipur in Rajasthan. The IPL Auction this time was quite exciting as there were some surprises in the bags. Many top players went unsold and many were able to get a good price. Shivam Dubey and Varun Chakravarthy were two uncapped who went for quite an amazing value.
There was quite a buzz that this 25-year-old player could spark a bidding war and might become the most expensive uncapped player. He may not have become the most expensive but became the second most expensive uncapped player. Shivam Dubey who plays for Mumbai in the domestic circuit went to Royal Challengers Bangalore for a whopping INR 5 crores. Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals are the other two franchise that tried to purchase him in the auction.
Shivam Dubey is one of the rare commodities in India as he is a fast bowling allrounder. He can hit sixes quite easily and has showcased his abilities in the domestic matches. In a recent match where Mumbai faced Baroda, he hit Swapnil Singh for 5 sixes in an over. There are huge expectations from this young lad. A good performance in the IPL will make his case for the Indian Team as a good fast bowling all-rounder is something which Indian side would welcome anytime.
Varun Chakravarthy is the name which the IPL auction has thrown at us this year. He was the most expensive uncapped player this year at the auctions. As many as 5 teams went for him at the auction. Delhi Capitals and Chennai Superkings started the bidding war for this player. Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, and Kings XI Punjab also went for him at the auctions. Finally, after a long bidding process Kings XI Punjab was able to buy him at a price tag of INR 8.4 crores.
Varun Chakravarthy came into the limelight by playing for Madurai in TNPL. He helped his team to win the TNPL this season. He is known as a mystery bowler. He picked up 9 wickets in 10 matches with an economy of just 4.7. He also bowled in the nets of Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Superkings. Hope he lives to the expectation of his price tag.
