Rajasthan Royals (RR) are all set to host Mumbai Indians (MI) in Match 38 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on Monday (April 22) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur.

The Royals are currently the table leaders with six victories in seven games. In their last outing, RR secured a thrilling last-ball victory against Kolkata Knight Riders. Jos Buttler scored a hundred to seal the joint-highest successful IPL chase of 223.

Meanwhile, Mumbai have managed to win three out of seven games and are seventh in the points table. They are coming off a nine-run win against Punjab Kings and will be hoping to continue the momentum.

As per head-to-head record, MI hold an edge with 16 victories in 30 games. In their last meeting this season, RR registered a dominating victory by chasing down the target of 126 in less than 16 overs.

On that note, let's check out the last occasion when RR last played against MI in Jaipur.

Rajasthan Royals clashed against Mumbai Indians at Jaipur in 2019

On April 20 2019, the Steve Smith-led Rajasthan Royals won the toss and chose to bowl first.

In the third over, Shreyas Gopal got the big fish, Rohit Sharma (5), in the third over. However, Quinton de Kock and Suryakumar Yadav were impressive with their efforts to put the team in good stead. The duo sent the scoreboard ticking at a comfortable rate and stitched a 97-run stand.

De Kock (65) and Yadav (34) were dismissed in quick succession around the 14th over mark. Then, Hardik Pandya (23) was the major contributor as MI posted 161 on the board. Gopal was the pick of the bowlers for the home team with figures of 2/21 in four overs.

In response, Ajinkya Rahane (12) looked good in his short stay, before he was dismissed by Rahul Chahar. Nevertheless, Sanju Samson and Steve Smith played with positive intent and steered the team in the right direction.

Chahar dismissed Samson for a well-compiled 19-ball 35, and followed it by breaching the defense of Ben Stokes (0) in the eighth over.

Smith played an anchor role, as the youngster, Riyan Parag played a sublime knock to put the MI bowling line-up under pressure. The things took turn, when Parag was run out for 43 off 29 in the 18th over, and Ashton Turner (0) was dismissed by Bumrah in the following over.

But, with a composed approach, Steve Smith (59* off 48) and Stuart Binny (7*) remained unbeaten, as RR sealed the chase with five balls to spare. Chahar finished with figures of 3/29 in four overs for MI.

Surprisingly, MI have not won against RR at Sawai Mansingh Stadium since the 2012 season, when they secured a 10-wicket victory. It will be interesting to see if Mumbai can finally end their winning drought at Rajasthan's den.
