Chelsea vs Brighton and Hove Albion

Chelsea will face Brighton and Hove Albion at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League with the Blues looking to kick their season back in action. The six-time champions have had a disappointing term by their standards, finishing 11th in the league rankings. The Seagulls, on the other hand, have been very outstanding thus far and currently sit seventh in the league rankings.

Following Graham Potter's dismissal, Premier League legend Frank Lampard has taken over as manager. But his return hasn't quite hit the right stride as the Blues have lost both their games under his charge so far. However, Lampard will be looking to turn the team's fortunes around as quickly as possible.

Chelsea Vs Brighton Fixtures

Having sacked Graham Potter during the international break in March, many Chelsea fans would have believed that a new manager bounce would have helped their cause. However, things haven’t quite gone to plan so far with back-to-back losses against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Real Madrid (in the UEFA Champions League). The Blues are currently mired in the mid-table fight and are desperately hoping for something more although their opponents sit on the other side.

Brighton and Hove Albion currently sit in seventh place and have been on a decent run with just one loss in their last five games although that run does include two draws as well. But they’re currently only seven points behind fifth place Tottenham and, with ten games left on their dance cards, are chasing after the glory that European football brings. However, things will get complicated for Roberto de Zerbi and his men as they have to face Manchester United, Arsenal, Newcastle United and Manchester City before the season gets over.

Chelsea, on the other hand, has to face the same four sides plus a few others before their season is over although the Blues will need something akin to a major miracle to make the European cut.

Chelsea Players

Few teams have struggled to find the right mix this season as much as Chelsea has and the Blues’ position on the league table showcases that rather beautifully. However, even then, the return of N’Golo Kante and his performance against Liverpool showed that the Frenchman is still a class act despite his recent issues with injuries. But with Lampard slowly easing the Frenchman back into the fray after a long absence, the Blues will need Enzo Fernandes and co to step up.

That has yet to happen although Fernandes has been a consistent performer for Chelsea despite the fact that Raheem Sterling, Kai Havertz, Joao Felix and even Mateo Kovacic have struggled to find their rhythm. It means that Lampard will need to ensure he gets the best out of his offensive pieces for Chelsea to have any chance of climbing up the table.

Brighton Players

Ever since Roberto de Zerbi took over, the Seagulls have been purring with Brighton slowly but steadily finding their place in the upper echelons of the Premier League table. That was aptly showcased by their performance against Tottenham as only poor refereeing decisions saw Brighton denied a point in a game where Karou Mitoma shone yet again. The Japanese international has been another gem in the making for the Amex Stadium side and has thrived this season with 11 goal contributions.

Only Alexis Mac Allister has scored more goals for the club than Mitoma while only Pascal Gross and Solly March have provided more assists for the club. Both March and Gross, alongside Mac Allister, are two other stars in the Brighton team-sheet although given the way De Zerbi has set Brighton up to play, their entire team could cause serious problems for Chelsea.

Chelsea Vs Brighton Head to Head

So far, the two sides have met 13 times, with Chelsea winning six times and Brighton winning two, while five matches have ended in draws. However, that’s with Chelsea at their best, and the Blues haven’t won a game against the Seagulls in the league since September 2020.
