The late Javier Ambrois represented the Uruguayan national team and helped them clinch the Copa America title in 1956. He is the joint top scorer it the Copa America Most Goals in 1 season alongside Brazilian Jair and Argentine Humberto Maschio, scoring 9 goals each. Maschio was part of the 1957 Argentinian side that steamrolled past other teams to win the trophy. He was part of Argentina’s greatest ever frontline alongside Omar Sivori and Antonio Angelillo.
Brazilian playmaker Jair played a key part in Brazil lifting their third Copa America title in 1949. He completed the famous attacking trio alongside Zizinho and Ademir. Jair had scored 9 goals in the tournament, 2 of which came in the final against Paraguay.
A Pele inspired Brazil won the World Cup in 1958 and were strong favourites to lift the Copa America the next year. Unfortunately they were pipped by Argentina to the title.
