ISL 2015

The Indian Super League is a men’s professional football league in India. The competition began in October 2013 and gained popularity quickly due to its entertaining nature, to become one of the leading leagues in the country.


The 2015 Season

The 2015 season of the Hero Indian Super League was the second edition of the competition. The season began on 3 October and lasted till 18 December, 2015. Eight teams participated in the competition, including defending champions Atlético de Kolkata.


The matches were played on a daily basis. However, this changed in the ISL 2017-18 season.


Tournament Format

Each team plays each other twice in the season and the top four teams qualified for the playoffs.


The top four teams in the 2015 season were Goa, Atlético de Kolkata, Chennaiyin and Delhi Dynamos.


Defending champions Atlético de Kolkata were defeated by Chennaiyin in the semi finals by 4-2 on aggregate.


In the other semi final, Goa beat Delhi Dynamos by 3-1 in aggregate.


Winners

The final was played between FC Goa and Chennaiyin on 20 December 2015 at the Fatorda Stadium in Goa. In a closely matched finale, Chennaiyin won the game with a score of 3-2.


After a goalless first half, the second half started with a Chennaiyin penalty. The initial shot by Pellisar was saved, but he managed to score on the rebound putting his team on the lead. Goa reacted quickly and Haokip scored in the 58th minute, followed by Jofre scoring in the 87th minute. It looked like the match was for Goa to take, but Kattimani scored an own goal while clearing the ball. In the dying moments, Mendoza dribbled past three players and scored the winner, making a great comeback for his team.
