What is the format for the Olympic football tournament?

The men’s football category in the 2024 Paris Olympics include a total of 16 teams who are divided into four groups. Each team plays the other three teams in their respective groups. After the group stage games, the top two teams in each group qualify for the quarter finals.

The winners of the quarter-finals move on to the semi-finals. The winners of the semi-finals play the final, while the losers face each other for the third place and take home bronze medals. The winners of the final get gold medals and the runners-up win silver medals.

What is the format of the women’s football tournament in the Olympics?

In the women’s football category, 12 teams are set to participate, divided into three groups of four teams each. Each team plays the other teams in their groups and the top two teams from each group along with two third-placed best teams make it to the quarter-finals. Much like the men’s category, the winners of the quarter-finals move to the semi-finals. In the finals, the winners win the gold and the losers win the silver medals. The losers of the semi-finals play a match to determine the third-placed team and bronze medal winners.
