Henrik Stenson, the 2016 Open Championship champion, was born on April 5, 1976. In his almost 30-year career, he has 22 professional victories, five Swedish Golfer of the Year awards in two decades, and two European Tour Golfer of the Year awards.

He became the first Swedish and Nordic major champion after winning the Open Championship in 2016. He has been in the top ten of the Official World Golf Ranking for almost 300 weeks, and his career high of second place is the highest of any Swedish male golfer.

Stenson was the first player to win both the FedEx Cup on the US PGA Tour and the Race to Dubai on the European Tour in 2013. He was also the first player to win the season finales of both tours. However, Stenson was chosen to captain the European Ryder Cup in 2023, but his captaincy was later withdrawn when he joined LIV Golf.

The Swedish Golf Federation announced in September 2022 that it was ending its relationship with Henrik Stenson owing to his involvement with LIV Golf. In May 2023, it was confirmed that Stenson had resigned from the European Tour following many penalties and a suspension for competing in events without a conflicting event release.
