The Masters - Final Round

American professional golfer Phil Mickelson was born on June 16, 1970, and is presently a member of the LIV Golf League. He has triumphed in 45 PGA Tour events, comprising six major championships: two PGA Championships (2005, 2021), one Open Championship (2013), and three Masters victories (2004, 2006, 2010).

At the age of fifty years, eleven months, and seven days, Mickelson made history by winning the 2021 PGA Championship, making him the oldest major championship winner ever. Since he plays left-handed, he goes by the nickname Lefty.

Mickelson is one of just 17 golfers in history to have won three or more major championships. All majors have been won by him, with the exception of the U.S. Open, where he set a record six times as runner-up.

Mickelson left the PGA Tour after thirty years in 2022 to become the only player to have won three or more of the four major championships and join the Saudi-backed LIV Golf Tour.

In the Official World Golf Ranking, Mickelson has been ranked in the top 50 for more than 25 years running. He has been in the top 10 for more than 700 weeks, has multiple times held the No. 2 spot in the world ranking, and is a life member of the PGA Tour.

Despite being right-handed by nature, he is renowned for his left-handed swing, which he picked up by imitating the swing of his right-handed father. In 2012, he was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame.

Phil Mickelson’s Masters Tournament Wins

Phil Mickelson has won the Masters Tournament thrice, in 2004, 2006, and 2010.

In 2004, during his thirteenth year on the PGA Tour, Mickelson won his first major title. He did so at the Masters when he birdied the last hole with an 18-foot (5.5 m) putt. The winner at a stroke back was Ernie Els; they had traded birdies and eagles on the last nine and had played in different pairs in the final round.

Apart from eliminating the "majors monkey" from his back, Mickelson became the third golfer with a left-handed swing to win a major, the other two being Canadian Mike Weir and New Zealander Sir Bob Charles.

In the spring of 2006, Mickelson won his third major championship at the Masters Tournament. With a final round score of 3-under-par, he defeated runner-up Tim Clark by two strokes to win his second green jacket. He surpassed Woods and Vijay Singh to take the number two position in the Official World Golf Ranking, which was a career-high.

On April 11, 2010, Mickelson defeated Lee Westwood by three strokes to win the Masters Tournament with a 16-under-par score. For Mickelson, the victory was his third Masters triumph and his fourth major overall.

Mickelson’s incredible run in the third round, when he was five strokes behind Westwood and was preparing his approach shot to the 13th green, was crucial to his victory.

Mickelson made eagle on the first hole, the par-4 14th, then holed out for eagle from 141 yards on the next, the par-5 15th, missing eagle by an inch. Following his birdie at hole 15, Mickelson, at −12, took the lead from Westwood, at −11, who had bogeyed the 12th hole and settled for par on the par-5 13th.

Westwood closed the round with a one-stroke lead, but Mickelson's momentum continued into the fourth round, where he shot a bogey-free 67 to Westwood's 71. Although K. J. Choi and Anthony Kim made significant progress, no other chaser was able to maintain pace until the very end.

Mickelson finally birdied the final hole and made a memorable greeting to his wife, Amy Mickelson.
