The US Open (United States Open Championship) is the third golf major of the season and is recognized by the PGA and the European Tour, respectively. It is played in the stroke-play format of four rounds with 18 holes each. The event usually takes place on the third Sunday of mid-June. The U.S. Open is held on a variety of courses, all of which are designed to make scoring extremely challenging and to emphasize accurate driving.

The event was founded in 1895 at the Newport Country Club, a nine-hole course on Rhode Island. It's organized by the United States Golf Association (USGA), and notably, it was established a year before the US Open. It has a field of 156 players, comprising both amateurs and professionals; however, most of the field is already taken up by fully exempt golfers.

What is the Course for the US Open?

The Pinehurst Resort & Country Club will host the 2024 US Open.

This will be the fourth US Open and the 11th USGA tournament hosted at the club. It was also revealed that Pinehurst will serve as the "anchor" venue for four more U.S. Opens in 2029, 2035, 2041, and 2047.

Pinehurst was established in 1895 by Boston soda fountain tycoon James Walker Tufts and soon became one of the nation's top resort locations. Course No. 2 was designed in 1907 by renowned architect Donald Ross, who made continuous revisions to the design until his death in 1948.

In 1962, the USGA started their long-standing relationship with the resort when it hosted the U.S. Amateur. 37 years later, the U.S. Open was held, and Payne Stewart won it by a shot owing to an 18-foot par putt on the 72nd hole. The U.S. Open and U.S. Women's Open were held on Course No. 2 in consecutive weeks in 2014, making even more history at Pinehurst and for the USGA.

US Open Location

The 2024 US Open will take place in Pinehurst, North Carolina, at the Pinehurst Resort, Course No. 2, from June 13 to June 16.
