Warframe is one of the most popular free-to-play MMO shooters out in the market. Despite the lure of its high-adrenaline acrobatic gameplay, however, the new player onboarding has remained a lingering issue. The game is a vast playground of numerous interactive systems, game mechanics, and pockets of content and lore that are not always relayed comprehensively to the player. In turn, this leaves many beginners overwhelmed and confused.

To a few gamers, this may seem representative of the game's charm, that it hides its depth well. However, more often than not, this double-edged quality turns newcomers away before reaching that depth. Currently, there are two different options for beginners to approach the new player experience: the Warframe path and the Duviri path.

While Duviri path has the player hit the ground running with a whole new open world to explore, it still largely remains a content island decoupled from the main game, barring the Circuit. Either path of Warframe will have players eventually beat Vor's Prize, the second quest they must beat to get into the thick of things. After it is over, however, players are left with a world of opportunities - but without adequate guidance. If you are a beginner, the following are the things you may want to focus on after the ending of Vor's Prize.

Things to do in Warframe when starting out

1) Work your way through the Star chart

The bulk of Warframe's early and mid-game progression comes down to clearing out all the nodes on the planets. All in all, there are 15 planets, excluding the Void and a few spoiler-sensitive regions that will unlock later.

Firstly, there are numerous different resources in the game a player must collect, scattered throughout different planets. Nodes on one planet can only drop four basic resources tied to that planet, barring the open landscapes.

This brings us to the second point: beginners should not bother about the free-roam landscapes just yet. While the Plains of Eidolon or the Cambion Drift can appear lucrative and the enemy levels manageable initially, they can get out of control quickly. Duviri, on the hand, is something you can handle from the get-go making it a worthwhile investment if it tickles your fancy.

The idea is to stick to clearing out nodes as you see fit. If you find one node, like interception or defense, particularly tedious or challenging, you can always leave them and come back later when you are better equipped with niche tools to deal with them.

Going to the next planet also requires unlocking its junction nodes by ticking off a checklist. These are designed to naturally accustom you with basic know-how about the economy and gameplay, meaning you will only get across when you logically should be able to.

Clearing all the nodes out is also crucial in the long run because late-game activities like the Steel Path mode and Arbitration are locked behind them.

2) Spend your starter Platinums on slots

Every new Warframe account starts with 50 Platinums, the premium in-game currency. While the syandanas and cosmetics may be alluring, remember to spend it only on more general utility.

As you are prohibited from trading with other players with the starter Platinums, their best use is to get a combination of Warframe and weapon slots. The slots are important because you will eventually need several specific use-case weapons and frames to be efficient.

3) Join a beginner-friendly clan

The staggering amount of different materials, systems, and activities in the game is impossible to understand all at once. In your Warframe journey, you will often grapple with new systems that are not self-explanatory or intuitive. While there is a Q&A chat to particularly address these queries, a community of knowledgeable clanmates do it even better.

To get into a clan, simply go into your region chat and type in 'LF clan' ('LF' means 'looking for'), and chances are your friendly neighborhood clan recruiter will notice immediately.

Making a few friends in the game goes a long way to combat both the difficulty of learning the game and the burnout of the grind. Additionally, fully researched clans have exclusive access to numerous equipment and Warframe blueprints.

4) Get a tank and a nuker Warframe

As you progress through the star chart, the enemy levels will ramp up in difficulty. The scaling especially starts getting steep after Saturn and Neptune, so you should start immediately working towards a tanky frame.

There are two options you can access very early on in the tank department. The first is Rhino, whose components can be farmed from the Jackal, the Venus boss in Fossa. The second is Nezha, whose component blueprints can be bought from your clan dojo.

Additionally, for farming reasons, a nuke warframe is useful in stationary endless missions like Defense nodes. The best early option here is Volt, whom you can pick as a starter frame. If not, his components can also be purchased from the clan dojo.

5) Keep up with the Nightwave challenges and Alerts

The Nightwave, Warframe's own take on a completely free battle-pass system, is a treasure trove for beginners. A pro tip is to use Nightwave credits on aura mods instead of Orokin Catalysts or Reactors. These come in handy because they are a great way to increase your frame's mod capacity. More importantly, they can be sold to other players a few weeks later when they go out of rotation.

There are also often weekly alerts that are comparatively easy to do and present important rewards like built Orokin Catalysts and Forma. An additional note must be given to the newly added Circuit system. You need to only complete the Duviri Paradox quest to unlock it, and on some weeks, their reward rotation may contain Warframes that are otherwise hard to farm.
