So far in the 2022 NFL season, Thursday Night Football has failed to live up to expectations. This has been especially evident in the previous two Thursday Night Football games, which saw the Indianapolis Colts beat the Denver Broncos 12-9, and the Washington Commanders overcome the Chicago Bears 12-7.

Two consecutive low-scoring games saw many NFL fans disappointed with the quality of football on show. Some have even debated not watching the Week 7 clash between the Arizona Cardinals and the New Orleans Saints.

However, there have been plenty of excellent Thursday Night Football games in NFL history. Here are three of the best.

What are the 3 best Thursday Night Football games in NFL history?

#1 – Los Angeles Rams vs San Francisco 49ers | Week 3, 2017

Back in 2017, the Los Angeles Rams overcame the San Francisco 49ers 41-39, in what remains the highest scoring TNF game of all-time.

Both teams managed to score, at least, six points in every quarter, and despite L.A. holding a 34-20 lead at one stage, this one couldn’t have been closer.

QB Brian Hoyer led a late comeback by the Niners, and Carlos Hyde punched it in to make the score 41-39. However, San Francisco failed to tie the game with a two-point conversion. To add to the drama, they recovered the onside kick, but ended up turning the ball over on downs as Los Angeles came out victorious.

#2 - New England Patriots vs New York Giants | Week 17, 2007

The New England Patriots and Tom Brady completed their 16-0 regular season in 2007 during a Week 17 clash with the eventual Super Bowl champions, the New York Giants, on TNF.

The Pats were in danger of blowing a perfect season as they found themselves 15 points down in the fourth quarter of the game at Metlife Stadium. However, Tom Brady did what he does and led New England to a historic comeback victory.

Despite Brady throwing his 50th touchdown of the season in this game, the Giants would get their revenge a month later after Eli Manning beat Brady to win the Super Bowl.

#3 - Green Bay Packers vs Detroit Lions | Week 13, 2015

Aaron Rodgers capped off a heroic comeback in true Rodgers style back in 2015, when the Green Bay Packers beat division rivals Detroit Lions 27-23 on Thursday Night Football.

Matt Stafford had put the Lions up 20-0 early in the third quarter, but Rodgers and the Packers scored 27 points in the second half, including a Hail Mary touchdown pass at the buzzer to win the game.

Dubbed 'The Miracle in Motown,' Rodgers' 61-yard throw to Richard Rodgers has become an iconic NFL moment and one of the best plays of Rodgers' career to date.
