Is Miles Sanders at risk of being ditched from Charlotte?

The Carolina Panthers can only improve from here. That's the notion surrounding the team, which went a league-worst 2-15 in the 2023-24 season. And as quarterback Bryce Young becomes a sophomore, they have undergone an overhaul.

There's a new coach/general manager tandem of Dave Canales and Dan Morgan, and they have particularly bolstered the offense - mainly via the draft but also by trading for Diontae Johnson.

Howevef, to accommodate all those moves, some piees have to go:

3) Jake Luton

The Panthers still want Bryce Younf to be the face of the franchise. He's getting good advice from Andy Dalton, who has been there and seen it all. And from this year's pool of UDFAs, Dan Morgan got himself Jack Plummer, who has had stellar performances as the starter for UC Berkeley and Louisville.

Now, who stands to lost the most from this? Third-stringer Jake Luton. He was awful in his three starts as a rookie Jacksonville Jaguar, throwing thrice as many interceptions as touchdowns.

That's a stain on his reputation - one the new regime will not want.

2) Jesper Horsted

Tight end has been a weakness for the Panthers since Greg Olsen lost his form in 2017, and the franchise has struggled to find his successor since then. Ian Thomas and Tommy Tremble hasn't worked as advertised, but the hope is that rookie Ja'Tavion Sanders will become "HIM".

However, that leaves the rest of the room fearing for their security. That includes Jesper Horsted, who's coming off beine released by the divisional rival New Orleans Saints.

1) Miles Sanders

Who else was going to top this list? When Scott Fitterer signed Miles Sanders in 2023, he thought he would be getting the thousand-yard Pro Bowler who had helped the Philadelphia Eagles reach Super Bowl LVII. Instead, he got a waste of $25.4 million.

"Boobie" was surpassed on the depth chart by Chuba Hubbard and posted career-lows in almost every stat. And with highly touted rookies Jonathon Brooks and Dillon Johnson on board, the new notion is that he may be gone before his contract even ends.
