3 NFL stars who struggled with a heart condition ft. Damar Hamlin

Following Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin suffering a cardiac arrest during their game against the Cincinnati Bengals, the NFL world fell into a state of shock.

After a tackle on Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins, Hamlin got to his feet before collapsing a few seconds later.

Silence fell upon Paycor Stadium as both teams joined together in thoughts and prayers as the second-year was rushed to a local hospital.

Not many updates have come to fruition since, other than that he suffered a heart attack and remains in a critical condition.

That said, other NFL players have had similar complications with their hearts.

The aforementioned Damar Hamlin wasn’t known to have any heart complications in the run-up to the Bills vs Bengals clash on MNF.

Hamlin was drafted by the Bills back in 2021 and became the starting safety after veteran Micah Hyde suffered a season-ending injury earlier in the year.

Hamlin’s collapse shocked fans across the NFL world, as fans put rivalries aside to come together in support of him.

Over $3 million was raised overnight for his Go Fund Me charity.

Cyrus Jones

Alabama cornerback Cyrus Jones was drafted in Round 2 of the 2016 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots.

Jones could never establish himself in the pros. However, he also spent time with the Baltimore Ravens and Denver Broncos -- most recently in 2019.

After being cut by the Ravens back in 2018, doctors discovered a congenital coronary defect in Jones, which required open-heart surgery.

"When you go through something like that, it forces you to dig deep and kind of figure out who you truly are, what you've really got in you and how much you're willing to sacrifice to get back out there and chase your dream again," Jones told The Sun.

He is now looking to make a comeback in the NFL, and at just 26 years old, there’s no reason he couldn’t return.

JJ Watt

JJ Watt recently announced his retirement from the NFL after more than a decade of terrorizing offenses.

Since being drafted by the Houston Texans back in 2011, Watt has racked up 581 tackles and 112.5 career sacks to date.

He will no doubt be a first-ballot Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee when eligible. But in late 2022, Watt was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation -- an irregular heart rhythm that begins in your heart's upper chambers.

Astonishingly, just days after Watt underwent a procedure for this, he suited up and played for the Arizona Cardinals against the Carolina Panthers.
