3 quarterbacks the New York Jets passed up in the draft over the past few years

The New York Jets have passed up many superstar quarterbacks in the NFL draft. Let’s be honest, every team has passed up on a lot of superstar quarterbacks.

Nobody can predict the future, and nobody knows for sure who'll become a star and who’ll turn out to be a bust.

Maybe if they had picked Tom Brady in the year 2000, the Jets would've won six Super Bowls like the New England Patriots. However, we will never know.

That being over 20 years ago, let's focus on three star quarterbacks that the Jets could've taken over the past few years.

#1 - Patrick Mahomes, 2017 Draft

In 2017, the Jets drafted safety Jamal Adams with the sixth overall pick. Taking Adams was a solid move, considering that he turned out to be a three-time Pro Bowler. However, the Jets could’ve gotten their hands on Patrick Mahomes, who was selected 10th overall by the Kansas City Chiefs.

Mahomes has gone on to become arguably the best player in all of football. The Texas Tech product carried the Chiefs to two Super Bowls (winning one) and has collected a Super Bowl MVP and a regular season MVP. He’s also the favorite to win another MVP award this season.

#2 - Josh Allen, 2018 Draft

The Jets took Sam Darnold with the third overall pick in the 2018 draft. That would prove to be a colossal mistake as the former USC star never blossomed into a franchise quarterback. He was traded to the Carolina Panthers three years later.

New York could’ve had someone named Josh Allen instead. He was picked seventh overall by the Buffalo Bills.

Like Mahomes, Allen is easily one of the top signal-callers in the NFL and would’ve been spectacular in a Jets uniform.

#3 - Lamar Jackson, 2018 Draft

Not only did the Jets pass up Allen in 2018, they also chose Darnold over Lamar Jackson. The Heisman Trophy winner was taken by the Baltimore Ravens with the final pick of the first round (32th overall).

The Ravens definitely lucked out as Jackson became an MVP, a two-time Pro Bowler, and one of the best rushing quarterbacks in NFL history.

Jackson is a free agent this offseason. Maybe he’ll end up leaving Baltimore and find his way to New York. That’s highly unlikely, but it's not out of the question.
