Is Tom Brady the GOAT of trash talk?

Former New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady has officially announced his retirement from the game of football.

The seven-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback made the announcement this morning, Wednesday, February 1, 2023, in a 52-second video that was posted to his official social media accounts. He stated that he is retiring 'for good' this time.

Brady retires with more Super Bowl victories (7) than every NFL franchise. He also holds records for the most passing yards, touchdowns, and wins by a quarterback, as well as many other records.

He is one of the most impactful and well-respected players in the league. There is no doubt that he will be a first-ballot Hall of Famer in 2028.

While he has been well-respected throughout his career, there have been times when opponents have pushed his buttons and caused him to act out of character and trash talk them.

Here are three times when Brady proved his GOAT status when things got heated.

#1 - When Tom Brady and Tyrann Mathieu got into a heated exhange in the Super Bowl

During Super Bowl LV between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs, Brady and Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu got into a few heated exchanges in the second quarter.

To this day, what Brady said is unknown, but it forced the Chiefs safety to complain to Twitter about it after their Super Bowl loss.

Mathieu said:

“I thought I played as hard as I can today,” Mathieu said. “Listen, Tom Brady’s a great quarterback. I never really saw that side of Tom Brady, to be honest. But whatever. No comment. it’s over with. I’m done with it.”

Mathieu then tweeted that Brady called him something he wouldn't repeat while calling the media out for throwing him under the bus in a deleted tweet.

The Bucs beat the Chiefs 31-9 in the Super Bowl.

#2 - When Tom Brady trash talked Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen during "The Match"

During Capital One's "The Match" golf match which featured Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers versus Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes, the four quarterbacks engaged in friendly trash-talk.

The two vets ganged up on the young gunslingers, and Brady topped off any trash talking.

Brady poked fun at Allen, saying he hasn't backed up anything on the field in his career, especially against him.

Brady said:

"I will come prepared like I always do to everything. Golf shit-talk is a little different than pro football shit-talk. Usually pro football shit-talk, you have to back that up. Josh really hasn't backed much up on the football field in his career, let's be honest, especially playing against me."

Brady then said that Mahomes has played a lot of great games but hasn't really won important ones.

He said:

"Patrick, although he's played a lot of great games, he didn't really win the important ones. He's won a few of the other ones, but not really important ones."

During the 2021 off-season, Tom Brady made an appearance on "The Shop." He called out a team during the interview for being interested in him during free agency. He said that they then backed out at the last second, saying that they weren't interested in the veteran quarterback.

It caused Brady to ask the question, "You're sticking with that motherf--ker?"

Brady said:

"There was a story—in free agency, one of the teams, they were interested, and all of a sudden, they weren't interested at the very end. I was sitting there thinking, 'You're sticking with that motherf--ker? Are you serious?'"
