The 2021 season is not yet over, but we already have some pointers on what the 2022 NFL season is going to look like, especially in terms of starting quarterbacks. Some teams will definitely be looking at new quarterbacks for the 2022 NFL season, this is due to a host of reasons, whether existing starters are not quite making the grade or because franchise legends will be calling time on their careers at the end of this season. We feature all such teams that, we believe, will most likely change starting quarterbacks going into the 2022 NFL season.

Teams that will have a new starting QB for the 2022 NFL season

#1 - Pittsburgh Steelers

Ben Roethlisberger has been a great servant to the Pittsburgh Steelers. But it looks increasingly like his time is finally up. He has not been able to inspire the Steelers to victories like he used to and his arm strength is not what it was. In many games, the Steelers have won in spite of him. There is a real danger that Mike Tomlin will have his first losing season as Steelers head coach and much of that is because the offense has not been firing with Ben Roethlisberger as their quarterback.

Ben Roethlisberger privately has told former teammates and some within the organization that he expects this to be his final season playing quarterback for the Steelers, league sources told ESPN.More coming ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown, with a special start time at 9 am ET.

Rumors have abound that Ben Roethlisberger has already let the Steelers organization know that this will be his last season, even though he has been evasive in public. In terms of who the 2022 NFL season starting quarterback will be, it looks as if Pittsburgh will look to sign a veteran in free agency like Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson, or perhaps they may look to the draft. Backup quarterbacks Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins have not exactly shown that they can take up the mantle as yet going into the 2022 NFL season.

#2 - New Orleans Saints

Sean Payton is a head coach known for creating dazzling offensive plays. But to do so, he needs someone like Drew Brees. Their running backs are set for the 2022 NFL season with Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram. But on passing plays, they have not succeeded in replacing Drew Brees, which is not surprising given how great Brees was.

Not Winston, not Hill, not Siemian. We need a QB, maybe not for this season that is completely gone, but look a good one for the next season. Or try with Ian Book, anyway we can't perform worst#DALvsNO #Saints

Nevertheless, there are better quarterbacks than Trevor Siemian and Taysom Hill to fill those shoes. Dare we also say that even when Jameis Winston comes back from injured reserve, he may not be the guy that can turbocharge the Saints offense moving forward. They need another franchise quarterback to run the Sean Payton system. A stopgap measure will not do. Hence, for the 2022 NFL season, the New Orleans Saints are most likely looking towards the draft to acquire their new man QB1.

#3 - Denver Broncos

Another team that will likely be looking for a new quarterback in the 2022 NFL season is the Denver Broncos. They have a solid defense that has been ranked amongst the top 5 all season for points allowed to the opposition. On offense they have skill position players such as Courtland Sutton and Javonte Williams who can make explosive plays.

Teddy Bridgewater is not the answer Drew Lock is not the answer It will be a glorious day when the #Broncos finally have the answer, because no one will question it

The only area of concern seems to be the quarterback position. Teddy Bridgewater as of right now, is the starting quarterback, but he has not been able to get the offense going this season. His backup is Drew Lock, and even after a few middling performances by Bridgewater, the Broncos have not opted to make Lock their starting quarterback. Emphasizing the fact that he is simply not held in high enough regard within the organization to lead the team. They will need a new quarterback to get the team going in the 2022 NFL season and given how ready the offense and defense look right now, they might go the free agency route and pick up a veteran quarterback like Aaron Rodgers.

#4 - Houston Texans

One could pick pretty much any position on the Houston Texans roster and the chances are they are going to see a new starter for the 2022 NFL season. But what remains a must-have for the 2022 NFL season is a new starting quarterback.

Deshaun Watson is done with the Houston Texans after he requested a trade and is now under investigation for credible sexual misconduct. Rookie Davis Mills has seven touchdowns and eight interceptions and it does not seem likely that he will get the starting job. Meanwhile, Tyrod Taylor has five touchdowns and five interceptions, numbers that don't exactly scream QB1.

The Texans are in desperate need of a new starting quarterback going into the 2022 NFL season. With holes all across their roster, they will likely not be able to lure a veteran to town, so they will have to concentrate their efforts on the NFL draft.

#5 - San Francisco 49ers

San Francisco 49ers is a story foretold. They traded up in the 2021 NFL draft to grab Trey Lance because they believed he was the future of the franchise. Current starter Jimmy Garoppolo looks more like a placeholder at this point.

If the 49ers thought they could win a Super Bowl with Jimmy Garoppolo then there was absolutely no reason to trade 3 1sts & a 3rd for Trey Lance.

While Jimmy Garoppolo gives Trey Lance time to learn in the 2021 NFL season, the transition will be complete come the 2022 NFL season. Meaning, Trey Lance will invariably move up and usurp the 49ers' starting quarterback position. While no one knows where Jimmy Garoppolo will end up in the 2022 NFL season, there is a good chance he will go to some of the teams looking for veteran free agents.
