NFL position change - Antwaan Randle El

Antwaan Randle El was drafted in the second round in 2002 by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He played quarterback at Indiana, setting several records and finishing fifth in total yards in the NCAA with 7,400+ passing yards and 3,800+ rushing yards.

The Steelers already had Tommy Maddox and Kordell Stewart at quarterback, so why draft Randle El? Well, Pittsburgh had the intention to convert him to a receiver and return specialist. He had a decent career in Pittsburgh and Washington, totaling 370 catches for 4,467 yards and 15 touchdowns, and winning a Super Bowl with the Steelers. Randle El also had six return touchdowns and six passing touchdowns, so he still got to scratch his quarterback itch in the NFL.

NFL position change - Ronnie Lott

Ronnie Lott is proof that a position change can land you in the Hall of Fame with four Super Bowl championships and 10 Pro Bowls. Lott entered the league as a cornerback with the San Francisco 49ers in 1981 and went to the Pro Bowl and Super Bowl as an All-Pro rookie. Four seasons into the NFL, Lott switched to safety and continued to be dominant, unlike Devin McCourty.

Ronnie Lott went on to play an additional 11 seasons as a safety in the NFL, leading the league in interceptions twice and playing for additional teams like the Raiders and the Jets. He entered the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2000 and is considered one of the best safeties to ever play in the NFL — and that's not even his primary position.
