The Philadelphia Eagles face off against the Kansas City Chiefs this weekend, and they’re bound to be backed by hordes of fans in Arizona.
The Eagles have one of the most ferocious fan bases in the entire NFL, with their supporters following them across the country every week in their droves.
Along with the buoyant support, down the years, the Philly fanbase has proved to be one of the most chaotic in the entire league.
Here are five instances when the Eagles fans went over the top with their antics.
#5 Booing Donovan McNabb
Back in the 1999 NFL Draft, the Eagles held the second overall pick and selected quarterback Donovan McNabb out of Syracuse instead of running back Ricky Williams, who the fans wanted.
This led to a chorus of boos from inside the draft room, as well as back home in Philly. Of course, this wasn’t McNabb’s fault and could have deterred another player, but not the signal-caller.
In his 11 years with the Eagles, McNabb won five NFC East titles, went to a Super Bowl, and was voted to six Pro Bowls.
#4 Chris Baker and the Philly Cheesesteak
During a 2014 clash between the Eagles and Washington Redskins, defensive lineman Chris Baker was ejected for a hit on QB Nick Foles following an interception.
As he trotted off the field, Baker was hounded with boos and heckles, as well as the innards of a Philly Cheesesteak which came flying towards him from the crowd!
#3 Flare gun
Back in 1997, during a clash with the San Francisco 49ers, a disgruntled Philly fan smuggled a flare gun into the Eagles’ old home, Veterans Stadium.
The fan in question was angry as the Eagles fell to defeat and fired the flare gun right across the ground, in a stadium that faced crowd problems for years before being demolished.
"In spite of the fact that we feel we have made significant strides in recent years with regard to fan conduct at Veterans Stadium, what we witnessed this past Monday was undoubtedly a step backward," team owner Jeffrey Lurie told reporters.
#2 Breaking bus stops
Just this past week, Philadelphia Eagles fans proved just how chaotic they were following their victory over the 49ers in the NFC Championship game.
As fans took to the streets to celebrate the win, many piled on top of a bus stop downtown, only for it to cave in underneath them.
Thankfully, no one suffered serious injuries, not that they would care after their team made it to the Super Bowl!
#1 Climbing light poles
As the Eagles took down Tom Brady and the New England Patriots to win Super Bowl LII, fans again took to the streets to climb light poles to greet their heroes in the celebrations.
However, as this is a blatant safety hazard, police greased up the poles with hydraulic fluid to stop them. This, however, didn’t deter Philly’s crazy fans, who climbed numerous poles throughout the city in order to gain a better view of the party!
