Aaron Jones has been a man on a mission in 2024. During the offseason, the Green Bay Packers surprised their fans by releasing their rushing star. He may have statistically declined in the regular season, but he was a key contributor to their shocking run to the Divisional Round despite low expectations in the wake of Aaron Rodgers' departure.

Naturally, he joined the Minnesota Vikings - aka the Packers' eternal foes. And on his day, he was a focal point of their offense - hitting 100 yards once and 90 yards thrice more and leading the team to a 5-0 start before bye week.

On Sunday, the Vikings sought to end a two-game slump against the Indianapolis Colts and won 21-13 thanks to three passing touchdowns by Sam Darnold. Was Jones good in that game?

Aaron Jones stats vs. Colts

These are Aaron Jones' stats for Sunday:

  • Carries: 21
  • Rushing yards: 64
  • Rushing touchdowns: 0
  • Receptions: 4
  • Receiving yards: 18
  • Receiving touchdowns: 0

Overall, he was almost nowhere to be found, as the Colts defense neutralized him. However, he probably did not need to be dominant when Sam Darnold was throwing everywhere, eventually scoring Jordan Addison, Jalen Nailor, and Josh Oliver at the endzone for touchdowns.

In the early part, the game was a defensive slog, with neither getting much in the way of offense. In fact, the biggest highlights of the first half was a defensive touchdown by Kenny Moore II when he recovered a fumble and missed field goal attempts by Will Reichard and Matt Gau, adding to the dragging nature of the game.

The game finally intensified in the third with the first two of the aforementioned touchdowns, but even then Jones was struggling to get relevant yardage. The only saving grace for him was that his counterpart Jonathan Taylor was even worse, having only 48 yards on 13 carries by the end despite a strong start.

He will look to rebound at the Jacksonville Jaguars, who have a deadly pair of pass rushers in John Hines-Allen and Travon Walker but just a single credible play-stopping linebacker in Devin Lloyd, as well as a secondary that still lacks impact players.
