"Tell your son's mother I said thank you" - Aaron Rodgers once threw shade at Russell Wilson by tweeting at God

Before he was with the Denver Broncos, Russell Wilson was the star quarterback with the Seattle Seahawks. What hasn't changed, however, is Wilson's faith and his game. Interestingly, that hasn't stopped Green Bay Packers star Aaron Rodgers from taking a sly dig at the former Broncos quarterback.

In 2015, the Seahawks, led by Wilson, beat the Packers in the NFC Championship game. What followed was Wilson thanking God for helping him win the game.

Rodgers later tweeted to God about a completely different game. Taking into consideration the NFC Championship loss, Rodgers could have easily taken a shot at Wilson and him thanking God for the win.

"Have to start my return by thanking @TheTweetOfGod for an exciting season. Tell your sons mother I said thank you for those two throws," Aaron Rodgers wrote.

While some fans caught on to the reference, some remained confused about the quarterback's tweet.

Wilson had struggled for most of the game, only coming through for a 35-yard touchdown during the extra period to secure the win. Naturally, he was over the moon after their win. During a post-game interview, Wilson also thanked his team for the same:

"The will and the drive of these men is unbelievable. We always find a way to finish."

Aaron Rodgers believed God did not care about football

Before his tweet, Rodgers had called out Wilson and his statement. As per Rodgers' implication, God might have better things to do than follow football.

"I don't think God cares a whole lot about the outcome," Rodgers said in his radio show. "He cares about the people involved, but I don’t think he’s a big football fan."

Though he did not mention Wilson directly, the connection was clear.

Wilson ended up responding to Aaron Rodgers, standing by his words:

"I think God cares about football. I think God cares about everything he created."

Interestingly, Wilson also claimed that God spoke to him during his fateful interception while playing the Super Bowl XLIX.

“The play happens, and they pick the ball off. And I take three steps,” Wilson said. “And on the third step God says to me, ‘I’m using you. . . . I want to see how you respond. But most importantly I want them to see how you respond.”

The Seahawks faced the New England Patriots after their NFC Championship win, losing 28-24.

Furthermore, Wilson has often spoken about his faith with his fans and followers, including his decision to abstain from sex before marrying singer Ciara.

That being said, Wilson has struggled to play with the Broncos, putting up back-to-back disappointing performances with the team. With the team no longer playing in the playoffs, Wilson might have to work hard to turn it around for the 2023 season.
