On Sunday, the Arizona Cardinals traveled north to take on the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field in a critical AFC West divisional battle.

The visitors came into this game in fine form. They had won four straight games and climbed to the top of the division standings. However, their lead over the other teams was only one game, meaning a slip-up in Seattle could undo their stellar work over the past month.

On the flip side, the Seahawks are 2-2 over their last four games and could have been 1-3 if not for Geno Smith's magical game-winning touchdown drive in their last outing against the San Francisco 49ers. A win for Seattle would have seen them usurp the Cardinals in the division standings, but a loss could send them to the bottom. That's how high the stakes were for the home team in this game.

Here's how it panned out.

Arizona Cardinals vs. Seattle Seahawks game summary

Neither team found their offensive mojo in the early exchanges, and it took until the seventh drive of the game for a team to open the scoring.

The Cardinals embarked on a seven-play, 43-yard drive that stalled at the Seahawks' 17-yard line, forcing them to settle for a 35-yard field goal attempt, which kicker Chad Ryland converted to give his team the lead.

Two more punts later, the home team finally woke up. A 46-yard catch-and-run from wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba helped the Seahawks get not only into the red zone but also in field goal territory for the first time in the game. But unlike Arizona, Seattle did not have to settle for a field goal, as quarterback Geno Smith and Smith-Njibga connected for the second time in the drive for the game's first touchdown.

In their first drive of the second half, the Cardinals looked destined to add points to their total, as Kyler Murray and the offense carved up the Seahawks' defense and found themselves in field goal range. They faced a 4th-and-1 at Seattle's 37-yard line and instead of settling for three points, they opted to go for it.

However, it proved to be a decision that would haunt them, as the Seahawks' defense busted the play, forcing Murray to lob a speculative pass to wide receiver Michael Wilson to avoid getting sacked. However, the lobbed toss was slightly overthrown and picked off by defensive back Coby Bryant, who housed it for a pick-6. The celebration though is bound to cost him thousands of dollars.

Early in the fourth quarter, the Seahawks embarked on their best drive of the night and looked set to put the game beyond the Cardinals' reach. However, quarterback Geno Smith's attempt to find wide receiver Tyler Lockett in the endzone did not go as planned, as cornerback Garrett Williams read the play and picked him off to keep Arizona's hopes of a victory alive.

The Cardinals' offense finally woke up and drove the ball down the Seahawks' four-yard line. However, the drive stalled there and Arizona opted to kick a 22-yard field goal instead of going for it on fourth down to cut their deficit to seven points.

Smith had seemingly made another massive blunder, as his short pass intended for Kenneth Walker III was intercepted by Kyzir White at Seattle's 22-yard line. However, a replay review suggested the linebacker hadn't caught the pass clean, saving the Seahawks' blushes.

They made good use of their second leash on life and burnt eight minutes off the clock before kicking a 50-yard field goal to reclaim their 10-point lead. With less than two minutes left, the Cardinals' hopes of winning were already pretty low. And their fate was sealed when Ryland missed a 47-yard field goal attempt with 15 seconds left on the clock.

The 16-6 loss ended the Cardinals' four-game winning streak and saw Seattle ascend to the top of the NFC West rankings, which is where they could finish Week 12, provided the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Los Angeles Rams.
