Bobby Wagner landing spots: Best fits for outgoing Rams superstar

The Los Angeles Rams made a surprise cut on Thursday, releasing veteran linebacker Bobby Wagner after just a year with the team. Wagner signed a five-year, $65 million contract with the Rams but lasted only a single season. His contract didn't involve too much guaranteed money, which made the decision an easy one for the Rams.

The veteran linebacker did not want to play for a team entering a rebuild. With the release, he can sign with a team that's going to compete for a Super Bowl, while Les Snead and Sean McVay can focus on putting together another team capable of making a Super Bowl push in the future.

Wagner is a likely Hall of Famer whose durability has never been in question throughout his career. He became a superstar with the Seattle Seahawks, even winning a Super Bowl, but failed to repeat the same success with the Los Angeles Rams after they lost quarterback Matthew Stafford to injuries in 2022.

If he wants to go after another Super Bowl, then two teams that made it to the conference championship last season might be the perfect fit. Both the Philadelphia Eagles and the Cincinnati Bengals will be looking to upgrade their linebacker position, as they'll lose important players to free agency.

The Detroit Lions could also use his talents. Their linebacker room is one of the biggest weaknesses on the roster and they're looking to become a playoff contender in 2023. The same applies to the Green Bay Packers, who appeared to have found something in De'Vondre Campbell before he declined from his All-Pro form.

Getting a veteran leader who can play at a very high level and does not have any problems staying healthy is ideal in the market; these are the players you want to build your roster around. Whoever ends up signing Wagner will immediately boost their championship aspirations.
