Brian Robinson Jr. had a night to forget last week against the Cowboys as he picked up an ankle injury and the Commanders lost. Washington is looking to make it to the playoffs this year and will be hoping that they can have all their key personnel fit for the remaining games.
They currently have a 7-5 record to sit second in the NFC East but it was 7-2 not too long ago. They have lost three straight games. The first two defeats came against the Steelers and the Eagles, two teams that are looking to make deep playoff runs. But last week's loss against Dallas was disheartening as it came against a team that had a 3-7 record coming into the matchup.
The Commanders will look to bounce back in Week 13 against the Titans on Sunday and stop the slide. There is still all to play for this season and we explore whether Brian Robinson Jr. will be on the field when gameday comes around.
Brian Robinson Jr.'s Week 13 injury update
When Brian Robinson went down against the Cowboys last week, he had accumulated just 13 yards on 5 carries. The injury looked bad on first viewing as the Washington running back was tackled by a Dallas defender who landed on his planted right foot and twisted him. He looked to be in severe pain but the good news was that he walked off on his own power.
With Austin Ekeler still in concussion protocol and unlikely to play in Week 13, Brian Robinson Jr.'s absence could severely curtail the Commanders' running game. The 169.6 passing yards per game that the Titans allow is the best in the league. Therefore, if Washington is to win this game, picking up yards on the ground will be crucial.
The good news for Commanders fans is that Brian Robinson Jr. returned to practice on Wednesday, albeit in a limited fashion. He looked to be moving gingerly but he got touches of the ball. It shows that the injury is not as severe as initially feared and he could be in line to make a start against Tennessee depending on how the rest of his week goes.
How has Brian Robinson Jr. performed this season?
Brian Robinson Jr. has been a key component of the Commanders' offense this season as the running game has taken an elevated importance with rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels also able to scamper when required. The Washington running back has 537 yards on 122 carries, averaging 4.4 yards per rushing attempt.
He has also been a serious threat in the red zone. Excluding the game last week against the Cowboys, which was curtailed due to injury, he has had just two games where he did not score a touchdown. He has a total of seven rushes into the endzone in 2024.
He has also been a consistent performer, picking up multiple touches and rushing yards. Brian Robinson Jr. had two games below 50 yards back in September, sandwiched by a 133-yard match against the Giants in between. In the Commanders' first game in October, he had just 18 rushing yards against the Browns but scored two touchdowns.
Not considering the last match against Dallas, he has had three games over 60 yards on the ground since. He has also scored a couple of touchdowns giving a high return to fantasy football managers who have stuck with him in this period. Should he be available in Week 13, he could be an asset again. The Titans force opposing offenses to rush more than they throw and Brian Robinson Jr. could play a crucial role.
