Alabama Crimson Tide's Bryce Young might just be the first player selected in the 2023 NFL Draft. But as he gets ready to transition to the pro level, there have been several worries regarding his stature.
Young's reported weight in Alabama was 6'0, 194 pounds, which is on the lighter side for an NFL quarterback. The 21-year-old Philly native's precise measurements were released this weekend at the 2023 NFL Combine in Indianapolis. And, as expected, the results have received extra attention, with many wondering if the measurements will hurt his draft prospects.

Weight: 204 pounds
Arm length: 30.5 inches
Hand size: 9.75 inches
Young's official height was 5'10", his weight came in at 204 pounds and his hands measured 9 3/4 inches in length. Young's Combine measurements are very similar to those of Kyler Murray, the quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals. Murray was measured at 5'10", 207 pounds and 9 1/2 inches in height when he was picked in 2019.
Young would be the lightest quarterback taken in the first round since at least 2003 if he were chosen as one of the top quarterbacks. The closest size comparisons among QBs selected in the first round in past years are Kyler Murray (first overall choice in the 2019 NFL Draft) and Johnny Manziel (22nd overall, 6-0, 207 pounds in the 2014 NFL Draft).
Will Bryce Young’s measurements affect his draft position?
With victories in 23 of his 27 games as a starter, 80 touchdown passes to just 21 INTs, and the Heisman Trophy in the 2021 campaign, Bryce Young's two-year track record as Alabama's starting quarterback stands out in comparison to the remaining QB talents in this group.
While we will learn how much Young's size matters in the minds of teams and coaches when the 2023 NFL Draft takes place in late April, Young hasn't voiced any worries about how his short stature will affect him in the NFL.
While doing his media rounds at the NFL Combine, Young's size was a big topic, but he minimized its importance. When questioned about it, Bryce Young said:
"I have been this size my entire life. I'm aware of who I am. I know what I'm capable of."
He added:
"It's just. Everyone is free to hypothesize and pose any queries they see fit. Yet I'll keep exercising control over the things I can. I'll continue to put forth all-out efforts to position myself. I have faith in my abilities. I am aware of my abilities. I just can't wait to get to the next level."
