If you pressed your ears, you could hear the collective gasps of Kansas City Chiefs fans across the country, mouth agape, as Patrick Mahomes limped off Huntington Bank Field on Sunday afternoon.

We are officially in the business end of the season so it's understandable that Chiefs fans were in panic mode. Mahomes was officially diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain, an injury that will see him being listed as a week-on-week injury concern. Given the fact that the playoffs are around the corner, the Chiefs might want to be a little cautious. Which brings us to Carson Wentz.

With Mahomes likely out of the picture for Saturday's game against the Houston Texans, is Wentz worth a shot on the waiver wire?

Carson Wentz's waiver wire fantasy outlook for Week 16

Wentz took over from Mahomes against the Cleveland Browns and did his best to keep the offense ticking, unspectacular as it was. Wentz went 2-of-2 for 20 yards to close the game after Mahomes exited with an ankle injury.

We are also likely to see marquee free agency addition Hollywood Brown make his comeback this weekend after NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reported that the Chiefs wide receiver is targeting a return on Saturday. Despite these factors, relying on Wentz should be a last-ditch option.

There are likely to be better options for you to pick from in your leagues, some of which may include Aaron Rodgers, whose Jets offense has seen an uptick in form over the last two weeks.

You could also consider Anthony Richardson, who did not exactly lionize his credentials in Week 15. The Colts face the Titans next (easy money) and a Giants defense the week after, the same Giants defense that gave up five touchdowns to Lamar Jackson.

Wentz is currently owned in less than 1% of leagues across the board but we do not recommend grabbing him off the waiver wire with more reliable options available in most leagues.
