Second-year Miami Dolphins running back De'Von Achane exploded onto the scene last year as a rookie and put the league on notice. As a third-round pick out of Texas A&M, Achane wasn't that well-known coming into the league. However, his 4.32 forty-yard-dash time was the best of any running back in the 2023 draft class, which led to Miami selecting him.
As a rookie this past season, Achane rushed for 800 yards and scored eight total touchdowns, becoming the newest explosive playmaker on Miami's offense. Achane is expected to have an even bigger season in 2024 and will serve as Raheem Mostert's backup in a loaded Miami offense.

De'Von Achane is one of the most explosive players in the NFL. As a rookie, he played in 11 games, starting in four and rushed for 800 yards on 103 carries, scoring eight touchdowns on the ground. As of right now, Achane holds the NFL record for the highest average yards per carry (7.8) on a minimum of 100 attempts.
He was also effective as a pass catcher out of the backfield, hauling in 27 catches for 197 yards and three touchdowns. In fantasy terms, he was the most efficient running back, scoring once every 11.8 touches.
Achane missed a good portion of the season, after suffering a knee injury that put him on injured reserve on October 11, 2023. He was activated a month and a week later, on November 18, 2023.
Where should De'Von Achane be drafted this year?

Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel already said this off-season that Raheem Mostert will be the feature back for Miami this season.
Miami's backfield is one of the more unique backfields in the NFL, as they have one of the best one-two punches in the league.
After Achane's productive 2023 rookie season, one can assume McDaniel will get him more involved in the off-season, splitting the backfield with Mostert.
Even with Achane being the most efficient running back by the numbers last season, it doesn't mean he should be the first running back or even one of the first five. There are many questions about his usage, the split in touches with Mostert and his health.
It doesn't help that Mostert led the league in rushing touchdowns (18) last season. He will very likely be featured as their goal-line back that will certainly steal some touchdowns from Achane.
Achane could go as high as the late second round, but will likely be an ideal mid-round pick in the rounds 3-5. If you're looking for a run heavy team, selecting Achane earlier on might make sense. Mostert, being 32 years old is a concern for his long-term health and there's always a chance he could get hurt, being the main bell-cow in the backfield.
