The Detroit Lions failed to qualify for the playoffs despite a winning season. Dan Campbell's side finished the regular season second in the NFC North standings with a 9-8 record.

The Minnesota Vikings were too strong for the rest of their divisional rivals in 2022. However, the Lions will be eager to bounce back and fight for divisional honors next season.

To bolster their chances of making it to the playoffs, Detroit will need to strengthen their roster. Here are all the Detroit players who will enter free agency in the 2023 offseason:

  • QB Nate Sudfeld
  • RB Jamaal Williams
  • RB Justin Jackson
  • WR DJ Chark
  • OT Dan Skipper
  • G/C Evan Brown
  • DT Isaiah Buggs
  • DE John Cominsky
  • DE Austin Bryant
  • LB Alex Anzalone
  • LB Chris Board
  • LB Josh Woods
  • CB Will Harris
  • CB Mike Hughes
  • CB Amani Oruwariye
  • S DeShon Elliott
  • S C.J. Moore
  • K Michael Badgley
  • OT Matt Nelson
  • C Ross Pierschbacher
  • DB Bobby Price
  • RB Craig Reynolds
  • TE Brock Wright
  • TE Shane Zylstra
  • G Tommy Kraemer
  • DT Benito Jones
  • LB Anthony Pittman
  • LS Scott Daly

The Detroit Lions will need to prioritize an extension for running back Jamaal Williams soon. The running back had a great season as he rushed for 1,066 yards on 262 carries with 17 touchdowns.

Detroit will also be looking to re-sign Isaiah Buggs. The defensive tackle amassed an impressive 45 tackles and one sack during the regular season. The 26-year-old could potentially sign a long-term deal with the Lions.

With Jared Goff expected to start for the Lions as quarterback for the foreseeable future, there is some doubt over Nate Sudfeld's stint with the team. Detroit will also look into free agency for a backup quarterback, potentially cutting ties with Sudfeld.

What positions will the Detroit Lions focus on during free agency?

The Detroit Lions appear to have one of the most balanced sides in the NFL. However, they lack quality options in defense when it comes to their squad depth.

To beat the best, the Lions will need to solidify their rearguard and look toward signing a cornerback in the offseason. Dan Campbell has a strong foundation at his disposal but will need a few more defensive tools to get Detroit firing on all cylinders.
