DK Metcalf has been a surefire performer for the Seahawks over the years but he could be looking at a new home following the NFL Trade Deadline on November 5. There are reasons to think that Seattle might be open to a move if the right offer comes along. Chief among them is the realization that the wide receiver will be going into the final year of his contract next year and will require a new deal.
It has been reported that Seattle is not looking to lose the wide receiver as it fights for the playoffs. However, if the Seahawks want to avoid a contract drama, they could look at selling DK Metcalf before the upcoming trade deadline if someone entices them with a cannot-refuse offer. Having left the decision so late, they could find trade partners who are desperate for a wide receiver to swing their season and make them genuine Super Bowl contenders.
Seahawks WR DK Metcalf trade destinations on Nov 5 NFL Trade Deadline
#1 - Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers are 6-2 for the season and lead the AFC North. They have put themselves in a position where they look likely to make it to the playoffs but they know there are areas that they can improve. It is especially pertinent given the Ravens are 6-3 and hot on their tails in that division. Arguably a better roster at this point, if Baltimore can steal a march on Pittsburgh in the second half of the season, Mike Tomlin will have to take his team on the road in the postseason.
If he wants to avoid that and solidify his standing, they need a wide receiver. George Pickens is a top player but they need someone on the other side. They have been actively looking and Cooper Kupp was mentioned as a potential target when the Rams' season looked to be spiraling. They could be willing to pay a high price to prise DK Metcalf away from the Seahawks, especially since it will allow starter Russell Wilson to rekindle the connection with his old Seattle teammate.
#2 - Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers are another team aiming for the playoffs in 2024. They are 5-3 and second in the AFC West. Their most likely path to the postseason looks to be as a Wild Card, given the Chiefs are 8-0 going into NFL Trade Deadline day on November 5.
That Los Angeles has not been able to close the gap on Kansas City has a lot to do with their poor receiving corps. When second-round rookie, Ladd McConkey, is your best wideout, then some work needs to be done. Quentin Johnston and Joshua Palmer are solid players but do not elevate the offense.
It feels almost criminal to watch a quarterback as talented as Justin Herbert struggle with his receiving options. The Chargers should consider parting ways with some top draft picks to get DK Metcalf from the Seahawks.
#3 - Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Buccaneers won the NFC South in Tom Brady's last year and Baker Mayfield's first year in Tampa Bay. They did so in both instances hovering around the .500 mark as the rest of the division was atrocious. That is not the case anymore, though, as the Falcons acquired Kirk Cousins in the offseason and are settling into a nice rhythm. Atlanta is 6-3 for the year and the Bucs are two games behind going into the NFL Trade Deadline day.
Knowing a losing record is not going to suffice for a Wild Card spot, they need a wide receiver to bring their offense back to an elite level. The season-ending injury to Chris Godwin has opened up a spot on the roster. Given that the Buccaneers wide receiver may already have played his last game in Tampa Bay given his contract expires after the season, DK Metcalf could be an alluring option for the long term as well.
#4 - Green Bay Packers
The Packers made the playoffs last year at the Seahawks' expense, ending the Pete Carroll era in Seattle. Jordan Love was in inspired form in the second half of the season, throwing touchdowns galore and keeping the ball safe from opposition defenders. He did all that with Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, and Romeo Doubs as his three starting receivers.
The second-year quarterback, though, has made mistakes this year. He has tried to force the ball when he has not found a receiver open and has accrued 10 interceptions in just six-and-a-half games. He needs a proven receiver to complement him. DK Metcalf is only 26 and could help the Green Bay quarterback in the future too. The Packers should make the Seahawks an offer they cannot refuse.
#5 - Denver Broncos
The Broncos are 5-4 for the 2024 season and look to be in the hunt for a Wild-Card playoff spot along with the Chargers in their division. They have a rookie quarterback in Bo Nix, who has shown flashes of promise but has also struggled with turnovers.
Beyond Courtland Sutton, he does not have an elite wide receiver to throw to. Lil'Jordan Humphrey and Troy Franklin do not have the same pedigree as DK Metcalf. Just because a previous trade with the Seahawks turned sour does not mean that they should not try again for a proven player.
