Gosder Cherilus played collegiate ball at Boston College from 2003 to 2007, where he established himself as an impressive offensive tackle. The Detroit Lions selected him with the 17th overall pick in the first round of the 2008 NFL draft.

Cherilus signed his rookie contract with the Lions shortly after being drafted. The five-year deal was valued at over $12.5 million, with a $500,000 signing bonus and $8.86 million guaranteed.

After five seasons in Detroit, Cherilus received a hefty five-year contract worth $35 million in 2013 to join the Indianapolis Colts, making him the highest-paid right tackle in the NFL at the time. A $10 million signing bonus and $15.5 million in guaranteed funds were included in the deal.

Cherilus was cut by the Colts in 2015, just two years after he joined the team. He then signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for his last two seasons in the NFL. He inked a $7 million contract, which featured an average salary of $3.5 million per year.

Gosder Cherilus declared his NFL retirement in March 2017. He started 113 games in his big league stint and played in 117 games overall. During the course of this career, he earned $40.9 million as an NFL offensive tackle, according to Spotrac.

What happened to Gosder Cherilus?

On Saturday, Gosder Cherilus was charged with urinating on another passenger while intoxicated on a flight from Boston to Dublin. The airline reported that Cherilus's disruptive behavior forced the flight, which was scheduled to arrive in Ireland, to be redirected back to Logan Airport in Boston.

The former first-round NFL draft pick was then taken into custody and charged with disorderly conduct, the Massachusetts State Police announced on Monday.

At his hearing on Monday in East Boston District Court, Cherilus pleaded not guilty to charges of interfering with the operation of an aircraft, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. He was released on a $2,500 bail.

The day after his arrest. Cherilus made a statement in which he mentioned that he had taken a sleeping pill he doesn't usually use, which he believes played a part in his unusual behavior.
