Saquon Barkley is back to being his elite self. After seeing the New York Giants regress in the 2023 season, he made the move southeast to join the divisional rival Philadelphia Eagles.

That move has paid off — Barkley has become one of only two running backs this season, alongside Derrick Henry, to hit 1,000 yards. On Sunday, he continued to dominate as the Eagles routed the Los Angeles Rams 37-20 to bolster their pursuit of the NFC-leading Detroit Lions.

So how was Barkley's performance on Sunday? And what did it mean for him and the team?

  • Rushing attempts: 26
  • Rushing yards: 255
  • Rushing touchdowns: 2
  • Receptions: 4
  • Receiving yards: 47

If there is a frontrunner for MVP, Barkley should be in the conversation. The 2018 Offensive Rookie of the Year had already impressed with his 1,000-yard performances for the Giants, despite their struggling offensive line. Now, paired with one of the league’s strongest offensive lines, Barkley has elevated his game even further.

After the game, LeSean McCoy, a former Eagles running back, praised his performance and advocated his MVP cause.

Tight end Grant Calcaterra also played an unsung but pivotal role. Despite not catching a single pass, he was a key blocker, most notably preventing Kamren Curl from killing what would become a 72-yard touchdown rush.

Barkley also made some history in the win, shattering the franchise's single-game rushing yards record. The previous record was 217, set by McCoy in a come-from-behind win against the Detroit Lions in 2013.

Barkley has helped Philadelphia stay in the Super Bowl hunt, while his former team, the Giants, languish at the bottom of the conference. The Giants have also lost quarterback Daniel Jones, who requested a release from his contract on Friday.
