Running backs represent some of the most significant NFL players of the 2022 Fantasy Football season. The polarizing nature of the position can often determine the direct outcome of a particular fantasy matchup.

Most running back options have the potential to put up massive scores in the right matchup but also possess dangerous bust potential in the wrong ones.

This makes it extremely important for fantasy managers to utilize a proper strategy for their running backs each week. Analyzing direct weekly matchups and recent individual performances is one way to do so that has proven successful.

This strategy will provide managers with players to target in Week 12 of the 2022 Fantasy Football season.

NFL Week 12 Fantasy Football Running backs: Start 'Em

Jeff Wilson Jr. - Miami Dolphins vs. Houston Texans

Jeff Wilson Jr. appears to have emerged as the leading running back for the Miami Dolphins. While he still shares backfield touches with Raheem Mostert, Wilson has received more work in each of his two games since being acquired from the San Francisco 49ers via trade.

The Houston Texans allow the most fantasy points per game, so Wilson has a favorable matchup in Week 12. He's also expected to handle more work than usual, with Mostert ruled out with an injury.

James Conner - Arizona Cardinals vs. Los Angeles Chargers

James Conner has been solid since returning from an injury three weeks ago. He has finished within the top 20 running backs in PPR points in each of his last three games. This includes a season-best RB4 finish in Week 10 against the Los Angeles Rams.

Conner is in an ideal situation in Week 12 to keep his hot streak going in Fantasy Football. The Los Angeles Chargers allow the third-most fantasy points per game to running backs. He also has little competition in the Cardinals' backfield to challenge his touches following the departure of Eno Benjamin.

Michael Carter - New York Jets vs. Chicago Bears

The New York Jets have announced they are benching quarterback Zach Wilson in favor of Mike White. This likely means they will rely heavily on their rushing attack. This is good news for Fantasy Football for their running backs.

While James Robinson will see plenty of work in Week 12, Michael Carter remains their preferred option. Carter could be in line for a busy day, leading to a solid Fantasy Football performance. This is even more likely against the Chicago Bears, a bottom-five ranked rushing defense this year.

David Montgomery - Chicago Bears vs. New York Jets

David Montgomery has dominated the backfield touches for the Chicago Bears, especially since losing Khalil Herbert. He is often a solid running back in Fantasy Football, but may struggle to get things going against the New York Jets. They rank towards the top of the NFK in just about every defensive category, including ranking inside the top ten in fantasy points allowed to running backs.

Further complicating Montgomery's outlook in Week 12 is an injury to Justin Fields. This could negatively impact their offense as a whole, which could potentially hurt Montgomery's production. This is especially true against the Jets' stingy defense.

Kareem Hunt - Cleveland Browns vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Kareem Hunt has been a major disappointment during the 2022 Fantasy Football season. He has failed to finish inside the top 20 running backs in PPR points in any game since Week 1 when he finished as the RB4 against the Carolina Panthers.

The Cleveland Browns have relied heavily on Nick Chubb, with Hunt averaging just eight touches per game over his last four appearances. Things won't get any easier for Hunt in Week 12 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They are one of only three teams allowing fewer than 16 points per game to running backs.

D'Onta Foreman - Carolina Panthers vs. Denver Broncos

D'Onta Foreman has taken over as the starting running back for the Carolina Panthers since trading Christian McCaffrey to the San Francisco 49ers. Foreman has finished inside the top 15 in standard fantasy points in three of his five starts. He has also finished outside the top 40 in the other two starts.

Foreman has demonstrated plenty of value in Fantasy Football when featured in a favorable matchup. Week 12 doesn't appear to be one of those times. The Denver Broncos are one of the best NFL defensive units in just about every category. This includes ranking inside the top ten in fantasy points allowed to running backs.
