"HENNE THING IS POSSIBLE" - Brittany Mahomes hypes up Chiefs backup QB as Patrick Mahomes misses time with nasty ankle injury

An injury to Patrick Mahomes during the first half of the Divisional Round between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Jacksonville Jaguars had quarterback Chad Henne entering the field as Mahomes hobbled with his ankle.

However, as Patrick argued on the sidelines with coach Andy Reid and athletic trainers that he was fine enough to play, Henne took the field once the starter went to the locker room.

But Henne mastered a 12-play, 98-yard drive that ended with a touchdown and gave the Chiefs a 17-7 lead with four minutes to go before halftime. Even Mahomes' wife was impressed with the backup quarterback's work.

This isn't the first time that Patrick has suffered an injury during a Divisional Round game and Henne took over. The same thing happened two seasons ago, when Mahomes left the field with a foot injury in a game against the Cleveland Browns.

Kansas City won that game 22-17 with Henne converting a crucial 4th down.

The X-rays came back negative, which means that he doesn't have a long-term injury that will take him out of the playoffs. However, it's clear that he's in a lot of pain and this might translate for the later rounds.

The star quarterback returned to the field for the third quarter, but his mobility is clearly affected by the injury. If Kansas City goes to the conference championship, it's difficult to envision a scenario where he's completely healthy - and this will be a big problem against the Buffalo Bills or the Cincinnati Bengals.

What happened to Patrick Mahomes? Is he injured?

After a great start to the game, the Chiefs' quarterback evaded the Jaguars' pass rush but was unlucky when Arden Key fell over his ankle, causing a high ankle sprain.

He was limping heavily and couldn't put pressure on his right leg for a few moments. Although he initially tried to return to the field, he decided to go to the locker room and check if everything was fine.

Henne was back on the sidelines for the second half, but it was clear that he should stay alert in case anything serious happens.
