Tim Tebow won the Heisman Trophy in 2007 and became the first sophomore quarterback to win the award. He was a player for the University of Florida Gators from 2006 to 2009 before being drafted into the NFL in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft.
Before joining the New York Jets in March 2012, he was the starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos in the 2011/12 season. Tebow earned a reputation for his fervent Christian beliefs and athletic prowess.
After his collegiate career ended in 2009, Tebow ranked in the top two for career passing efficiency in NCAA Division-I history. He was in the top three for career yards per attempt and eighth in career rushing touchdowns in NCAA Division-I history. He also held the record as the college football player with the longest streak of games in which he threw and ran for at least one touchdown.

Tebow appeared in NFL games with the New England Patriots, the New York Jets, and the Denver Broncos. He led the Broncos on an eight-game hot streak after taking over as the team's starter in his second season. The streak ended when the Broncos faced the Patriots. They could still advance to the postseason despite losing the next two games.
Tebow's time in Denver ended after they signed Peyton Manning. Tebow was dealt to the New York Jets in 2012. His time in New York was uneventful, as he threw only eight passes and ran 32 times in a season. Following the 2012 season, he was without a job, searching for a team once again.
He was allowed to play for the Patriots so that they could assess his potential for the NFL.
