Tebow appeared in NFL games with the New England Patriots, the New York Jets, and the Denver Broncos. He led the Broncos on an eight-game hot streak after taking over as the team's starter in his second season. The streak ended when the Broncos faced the Patriots. They could still advance to the postseason despite losing the next two games.

Tebow's time in Denver ended after they signed Peyton Manning. Tebow was dealt to the New York Jets in 2012. His time in New York was uneventful, as he threw only eight passes and ran 32 times in a season. Following the 2012 season, he was without a job, searching for a team once again.

He was allowed to play for the Patriots so that they could assess his potential for the NFL. In the offseason, he completed 36.7 percent of his throws while throwing two touchdown passes and two interceptions overall. In August 2013, after teams were mandated to reduce their squads to 53 players, he was dismissed from the Patriots.

Tebow played professional baseball after leaving the Patriots and served as an ESPN pundit.

After six years away from the NFL, Tebow returned last season. He failed in his attempt to switch to tight end and was one of the first players to be cut by the Jacksonville Jaguars for the 2021–22 NFL season.
