Warner played collegiate football for Northern Iowa from 1990 through 1993. However, he missed out on getting picked to an NFL squad for four years during that time. He was acquired by the Green Bay Packers in 1994 but cut before the season opener. Warner gained his first NFL spot on the roster in 1998 with the Rams, retaining a reserve role until he was pressed into being St. Louis's starting QB the season after.

In January 2010, Warner made his NFL retirement a formal announcement. He claimed he wanted to spend more time with his wife and hoped to be a real dad to his seven children.

In his tenure, Kurt Warner participated in three Super Bowl games. He did take the Rams to the Championship Game on two counts, winning and losing one each.
