How to watch Spencer Rattler's reality show 'QB1: Beyond the Lights?'

Former South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler has finally been selected as the 150th overall pick by the New Orleans Saints in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL draft. Rattler, who once looked like a surefire candidate to be selected in the first round of the NFL selection, was surprisingly overlooked in the first four rounds of the draft.

Rattler was a highly sought-after talent in his high school years. He was one of the main stars of the 2019 Netflix series "QB1: Beyond the Lights," which followed him during his final year at Pinnacle High School in Phoenix, Arizona.

Three high school quarterbacks are followed in the gripping series "QB1: Beyond the Lights" as they compete in their final season before moving on to collegiate football.

Spencer Rattler was featured in Season 3 of the show during his first season at Pinnacle. The other prospects the Netflix series followed included Lance Legendre and Nik Scalzo.

Rattler committed to Oklahoma and played for coach Lincoln Riley and the Sooners for three seasons, from 2019 to 2021. However, Riley dropped him for the eventual 2024 NFL draft No. 1 pick, Caleb Williams, and soon enough, Rattler announced he was leaving the Sooners. He joined the Gamecocks in 2022 as their starting quarterback.

Why did Spencer Rattler slide down draft boards?

Six quarterbacks were chosen in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft, matching the previous mark for the most signal-callers picked in the first round of the NFL draft ever.

Another quarterback wasn't selected after the first round until the fifth round. The New Orleans Saints picked quarterback Spencer Rattler from the University of South Carolina with the 150th overall choice in the 2024 NFL draft, snapping a streak of 138 picks without a quarterback selected.

Rattler's drop on the draft board can be attributed to his comparatively low collegiate production and the likelihood that teams do not consider him a franchise quarterback.

Other sources claim that Rattler's physical characteristics, work ethic, attitude and readiness to serve as a backup were all under scrutiny.

Rattler had to wait a while to hear his name called, but he will now be in a position to advance as a player with the Saints.

Derek Carr is the team's starting quarterback right now, with Kellen Mond, Nathan Peterman and Jake Haener designated as backups. In 2024, Rattler will join the New Orleans quarterback group, with the possibility of backing up Carr. He might also develop as Carr's QB successor.
