The Green Bay Packers are releasing Jaire Alexander. The Packers and their perennial Pro Bowler cornerback failed to agree on a new deal, and Alexander will be on the lookout for a new team.

Following the news on Monday, NFL analyst Trevor Sikkema questioned the rationale behind Green Bay's decision.

"I continue to be very surprised the Packers didn’t hit cornerback until Round 7 of the draft knowing this was possible," Sikkema tweeted.

Sikkema's surprise is warranted, considering that Alexander spent seven mostly successful seasons with the Packers. He's arguably one of the best cornerbacks of the past decade, and is expected to have a lot of suitors heading into training camp.

Additionally, Green Bay waited until late on Day 3 to select a cornerback in this year's draft. The franchise chose Tulane Green Wave product Micah Robinson at No. 237.

Who are the Packers' CBs following Jaire Alexander's release?

According to ESPN's depth chart, the Green Bay Packers have 10 cornerbacks on their roster following Jaire Alexander's release. The decision to move on from their former Pro Bowler leaves a gaping hole at CB1.

The Packers have Carrington Valentine, and the former Kentucky Wildcat was recently listed as Alexander's backup. He has been with the franchise since 2023 and has seen Alexander lockdown some of the league's best pass catchers in recent years.

There's also Keisean Nixon. He spent the first three years of his career with the Raiders before joining the Green Bay ahead of the 2022 season. Nixon is an asset both on defense and on special teams, and is expected to play a larger role next season.

Nate Hobbs is another player to watch in the aftermath of the team's decision to move on from Alexander. He joined the Packers on a four-year $48 million contract, and might be tasked to become more than a backup in the secondary.

Other cornerbacks on the roster are Kamal Hadden, Micah Robinson, Isaiah Dunn, Tyron Herring, Javon Bullard, Kalen King and Gregory Junior.
