Amon-Ra St. Brown was one of the Detroit Lions players who got injured in their Week 12 game against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. Despite a knee injury, the wide receiver managed to finish the game.
However, St. Brown was unable to participate in the Lions' Monday walkthrough to start the week due to the injury. Although the team continued to limit his practice reps on Tuesday, he was able to practice to some extent, marking an improvement.
Detroit seems to be limiting St. Brown's practice load more as a precaution rather than due to the knee injury listed on the injury report.
With the Lions facing a short week ahead of their Thanksgiving Day matchup against the Chicago Bears on Thursday, it makes sense to reduce the workload of one of their key offensive weapons to keep him fresh for the game.
When asked about St. Brown's health ahead of Week 13 on Tuesday, coach Dan Campbell told reporters:
“Yeah, I feel pretty good about Saint, actually. Well, I’ll know more today.”
The fourth-year receiver also replied with “I'm good” when he was asked about his health on Tuesday.
St. Brown's prospects of playing against Chicago on Thursday will improve if his practice volume increases on Wednesday.
Amon-Ra St. Brown injury update: What happened to the Lions WR?
Given that he played 94% of Deteoit's offensive snaps in the Week 12 game against the Indianapolis Colts last weekend, it's uncertain how or when Amon-Ra St. Brown sustained a knee injury in that game.
But once Khalif Raymond left with an injury of his own, St. Brown was in charge of punt returns. He appeared to have suffered the injury at that time because he was clearly limping after his first punt return.
"Saint's a little banged up," Dan Campbell said on Monday. "We'll see how he recovers.”
Given that St. Brown was able to move up from DNP to limited practice participation on Tuesday, there isn't much concern about his availability leading up to Week 13. He has also shown himself to be a highly resilient wide receiver, missing just two games through injuries in his four-year NFL career.
Considering his reputation as a gritty competitor, Amon-Ra St. Brown's inclusion on this week's injury report is probably more associated with resting than any other reason.
Through 11 games this season, the Pro Bowl wide receiver has hauled in 71 passes for 747 yards and nine touchdowns for the Lions.
