Sunday's Week 2 preseason matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and the New Orleans Saints will feature quarterback Brock Purdy. Several starters, including Purdy, will play at Levi's Stadium according to coach Kyle Shanahan.
The 49ers originally intended to restrict the amount of time its regular starters would play in the preseason game, but Shanahan opted to give Purdy and his starters more run on Sunday because of the team's recent string of injuries. This is also to guarantee that these players receive the required minutes before the September 9 regular season game against the New York Jets.
Shanahan has made it clear that he will play a significant percentage of his starters against the Saints to allow them to practice against a different team. Typically, a coach gives his starters more work in joint practices, and rests them from the game that week.

Purdy is likely to play at least in the first quarter, and maybe part of the second, even though Shanahan did not disclose how much playing time the quarterback will receive. This will enable him to establish familiarity with other players before the start of the season.
The 2023 Pro Bowl QB's performance on Sunday will be critical in gauging how prepared he is for the start of the regular season, where he will look to build on his strong performance last year.
