Patrick Mahomes' status for Saturday's clash against the Houston Texans was a source of concern for Kansas City Chiefs fans after he suffered a high-ankle sprain at the end of the Week 15 contest against the Cleveland Browns. His participation in Saturday's game appeared to be in jeopardy, but coach Andy Reid put the speculation to rest with an encouraging update on Thursday.
The veteran head coach announced Mahomes was likely to play on Saturday. The quarterback was later cleared on the team's official injury report.
"He'll most likely end up playing," Reid said, per USA Today. "We'll just see how things work out today."

The Kansas City Chiefs (13-1) posted one of their best performance of the season against the Browns. Although they only scored 21 points, they played at a high level to continue their impressive run.

Andy Reid was "amazed" by Patrick Mahomes' injury recovery
Mahomes has overcome injuries that looked serious before he somehow returned to the field and kept playing at a high level. The 2022 season was proof of that, as he suffered an injury in the postseason against the Cincinnati Bengals on his way to his second Super Bowl championship.
Reid talked about Mahomes' ability to heal, admitting he's amazed whenever the three-time Super Bowl champion does it.
"I've been through it with him before and he amazes me every time he does it," Reid said of Mahomes' injury recovery. "He's so mentally tough. It's a mindset he has going into it. Where he was a few days ago, I'd probably say it was a longshot. He's done well with it."
The coach said he saw positive things from Mahomes this week.
"He moved around pretty good," Reid said. "You're always looking to make sure they can get out of the way, not to further any harm to them."
The Chiefs haven't had the most dominant season, but they keep winning games and looking like solid candidates to win Super Bowl LIX. They are looking to become the first team to win three consecutive championships in league history. Having a healthy Mahomes will be crucial for that goal.
After the Texans game, the Chiefs will travel to Pittsburgh to face the Steelers before heading to Denver to close out the season against the Broncos.
