Jameson Williams injury update & fantasy outlook: Will the Lions rookie make his NFL debut on Thanksgiving?

Jameson Williams is practicing with the Detroit Lions following ACL tear

Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams has returned to practice after missing out on more than half of the 2022 NFL season so far. The campaign is in Week 12 and the Lions are second in the NFC North following a win against the New York Giants last week. The Lions have won three back-to-back games and their hopes of entering the playoffs are alive.

The Lions have several key players listed as questionable for the upcoming game. Wide receivers Josh Reynolds and D.J. Chark, center Frank Ragnow and guard Evan Brown are all questionable this week. Receivers Quintez Cephus and Trinity Benson have been placed on injured reserve.

Rookie wide receiver Jameson Williams is still listed out of the upcoming game on Thanksgiving. He was practicing with the team on Monday and might still be a part of the game against the Buffalo Bills, but it seems unlikely. Even if he was to miraculously feature, Williams would likely not see many snaps.

While this is a disappointment, Williams is a good fantasy pickup as he is expected to feature heavily down the stretch.

Jameson Williams' fantasy outlook

Williams is playing his rookie season but hasn't featured in a single game as he tore his ACL in January while playing in the national championship game.

Williams is expected to make his debut over the next few games. The Lions have allowed the first-round pick to practice and Williams now has 21 days to prove that he is fit enough to play in the league. He can return anytime between 21 days, but if he doesn't, he will be ruled out of the 2022 season.

Detroit will host the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Minnesota Vikings after Thanksgiving, before heading to New York to face the Jets. If he is fully fit for these fixtures, he could well see a lot of targets in one of the most unpredictable, hot-and-cold offenses of the 2022 season.

The smart play is to keep him on your bench until he proves himself on the field. Only in desperate situations should you use him before that time.

The Detroit Lions selected Jameson Williams as the 12th overall pick in the first round of the 2022 NFL draft. Williams suffered an ACL tear while playing in the championship game for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Despite being injured and knowing he would miss at least the first six games of the 2022 season, the Lions took the risk of drafting him.
